C'mon now lets not count penalty's.

Harry Redknapp will tell Jermain Defoe that he does not want him to take any more penalties for Tottenham Hotspur, after the striker's latest failure from 12 yards against Leeds United in the 2-2 FA Cup fourth-round draw on Saturday.

The England international also missed an injury-time spot-kick at Everton in the Premier League last month which would have given Tottenham victory and, from his last 10 attempts for Spurs and his previous club Portsmouth, he has been successful only four times.

How silly of us to count penalties..

He hasn't been good so far overall, but has been good in some matches but you probably choose to ignore those, and is still a good player.. I'm not saying he has been good for us, I'm just saying he isn't a shit player like you are claiming him to be

He has played fairly decent, at best, in 2 matches

Norwich at home and Sheriff at home (or Anzhi, whoever it was)

If Soldado was an isolated case, I'd agree that he is shit. But, there are so many other players in our team who are not playing to their full potential (Lennon, Siggy, Capoue, Lamela, Paulinho, Verts, Ade etc) that one has to ask the question - why?
Seems the only one playing to their full potential is Tim's love child Bentaleb.

Sadly for us Roberto Soldado has been a huge flop. If he played for any other club with those goal stats we would all take the piss

We will take a huge loss on him in the summer but some spanish club will still pay around 14 to 15m for him

Someone with a bit of sense, finally!!!!

I couldnt agree more with this but it seems the majority of the people on here are both deluded AND clueless

La Liga eh? That league where a lot of decent players score a lot of goals and top players score more goals than there are games...

I remember when Afonso Alves scored 34 in 31 for Heerenveen. Can't remember how many he got for Middlesbrough in the PL though.

Had a fair few recent champions league winners from there, the domestic league of the reigning European and world champions... Also source of some top premier league performers.... Aguero, carzola, Torres, yaya toure.... Home of the 3 best players in the world... Oh and one of them dominated the premier league... Oh and Michael Owen (you know Englands legendary striker) survived one year there.

Some people rave about Defoe but only real offer to interest him came from Canada. Shows how highly rated he is. Even crouch used to be ahead of him for England. Look at his past clubs... West ham, Spurs, Portsmouth and Spurs... How many title challenges or trophies during his prolific career? If he was that good why didn't the real big teams come in for him?

If we can give a player like Defoe 7 or 8 years to be "prolific" then we can at least give soldado a quarter of that. At least he hit 20 goals in a top league.

To be fair, it takes a while to settle into the league - the guy needs a goal and a run of games. look at giroud at them lot, don't remember him doing much last season but it's a different story this year. Get behind him, the guy needs a break - I still think he'll come good.

Yep, but we'll be lucky to get £8/9M for him though.

I was lucky enough to see Steve Archibald play , he didn't have a great goal scoring start at Spurs but his work rate and fighting spirit quickly made him a crowd favourite, and then the goals started to flow and he became a hero.
What frustrates me about Soldado, and I think it is more than just a confidence thing, is that he just does not look like he is braking his balls to turn things around.

Maybe Sherwood assumed JD was on the team coach and realised when he arrived at KFC Stadium that he wasnt.

Agree, to let the ball bounce in the 6-yard box and not even compete for it incase you get clattered is inexcusable IMO.

Just so you know, Defoe had at least 4 offers from England

He turned them down for obvious reasons
