Lloris - 8 - Saved our arses at least once

Naughton - 6 - Was playing alright until the dreadful red card decision. Shouldn't put his hands up, it's probably a penalty but should never be a red.
Dier - 9 - Comfortable at CB, MOTM-candidate at RB post-red, and then finishes like a top class striker. T'riffic.
Kaboul - 5 - Still looks shaky, such a shame.
Rose - 7 - Struggled the first 15 but improved massively.

Bentaleb - 6 - Mixed bag.
Capoue - 7 - Good both at CM and CB.

Lamela - 6 - Tried but it didn't really happen for him.
Eriksen - 5 - A bit disappointing and looked dead on his feet the last 10 mins.
Lennon - 5 - Did very little.

Adebayor - 6 - Gave us our lifeline in getting Collins sent off. Isolated for the most part otherwise, couldn't get involved.

----

Holtby - 6 - Didn't seem very energetic.
Townsend - 7 - VERY energetic, instrumental in the turnaround.
Kane - 7 - Rated for the through ball alone. Woof.

It wasn't a convincing performance but derbies are always a case of not knowing what the hell will happen. West Ham have been a bogey team for us recently and I'm glad we overcame that. It's early days so I'm not bothered about the performance.

Lloris 7 - Did his job, and did it well. Good to get a clean sheet.
Naughton 5 - Gave away a silly pen, but the sending off was really harsh.
Dier 8 - Great debut. Looked comfortable on the ball and adapted to right back really well. Fantastic goal for a defender. Hope he builds on this.
Kaboul 6 - Didn't lead well enough for me. Made a couple of errors but did make a couple of good blocks too.
Rose 6 - Same old. Good going forward but poor at the back. Let Downing get too many crosses in.
Capoue 6 - Not bad, but him and Bentaleb didn't do enough to protect the middle when at CM. Did okay at the back.
Bentaleb 6 - Same as Capoue really.
Lennon 5 - Thought he was pretty anonymous. Looked like same old Lennon rather than the Lennon of pre-season.
Eriksen 6 - Great assist, that's what he's there for. Looks like he struggles with the tempo though and kept slowing things down.
Lamela 6 - Looked better than last season and did okay. Had quiet spells but looked more confident with the ball at his feet.
Ade 5 - He's still unfit and isn't ready yet. Got better as the game went on but didn't make a nuisance of himself enough.

Subs:

Holtby 6 - The usual from him. Like a German car, great engine but lacks that bit of style.
Townsend 7 - Thought he looked really lively. Tested the keeper, tried to make things happen and certainly made a case for starting over Lennon.
Kane 6 - Not much to say really. Nothing bad, nothing great.

I understand why Poch wants a CM in there as we still aren't pressing enough in the middle. Really need a quality CB, but Verts should be back soon which is promising. More than anything I think we need something more up front. Whether that's a new striker or a wide forward.

Still, very happy to get 3 points away to Wham on the opening game of the season. Not an easy fixture and it's very early days, so we can't comment about how much the team has changed from the last couple of seasons, especially since we only had 1 new player out there.

Here's what I think:

Lloris - 8.5 (Clean sheet, commanded area very well, and a save only Hugo could make at the end.)

Naughton - 6 (Even taking his red card into consideration, I think he did a good job earlier in the match helping us spread the play, and had a couple of good touches.)

Dier - 10 (He was flawless - kept his man under control during the early game, passed well too; at RB, he ran hard, came forward easily and looked completely at home. He also scored the winning goal - tiny things, innit?)

Kaboul - 5 (Made many mistakes throughout the game, and was lucky to get away with all of them except the one that led to the Naughton handball. Showed Valencia near the end what proper pace was though.)

Rose - 6 (Did an alright job. He was almost back to last season Rose rather than this pre-season, which might have been due to the Eriksen ahead of him.)

Capoue - 7.5 (Was bossing it hard at DM, but after moving to CB, you can tell he is nowhere near as comfortable there.)

Bentaleb - 7 (Played well, had some good passes, touches and a nice shot near the end)

Lennon - 6 (Was largely anonymous, but tracked back well and ran about a bit.)

Eriksen - 6.5 (Wasn't on his game today, but still pulled a few good passes and touches.)

Lamela - 6.5 (Largely the same as Eriksen)

Adebayor - 6.5 (He wasn't playing well, but tried hard. It might be better to rest him up a tad so he can fully recover from his malaria.)

Townsend - 7.5 (Came on, made things happen. Shots, passes, dribbles, crosses. He upped the tempo along with...)

Holtby - 7 (Tried hard, was largely successful in ruining Wham's dominion over the game.)

Kane - 7.5 (Was better than Adebayor, played smart and played a great through ball for the goal.)

Don't want to jump on him so early on.

But ill be extremely worried if that's the normal Kaboul performance we will see this season.

Hope it was just a bad game

Sorry man, but Harry Kane provided the assist....

Capoue's blushes were spared on a couple of occasions when he lazily hacked at a couple of balls, one led to the great save from Lloris and another when he passed a simple cut back left edge of the box straight to him to a Wet Sham player in the box, can't have been easy for Kaboul going from RCB to LCB with a makeshift partner.

Same for Bentaleb as he made some big errors at the end that nearly cost us, and was caught too tired to get back on occasion.

Ade was static for large parts of the game, then had bursts of pointless running and still insists upong slowing the game down with 10 touches before he passes. Lennon was Lennon ran about but offered little. Lamela tracked back well but seemed too interested in rolling his foot over the ball and didn't really contribute in an attacking sense.

Rose did ok, Naughton did ok but for the brain fart (why have your hands so high?) but should never have seen red.
Eriksen didn't really do much and a lot of the fluid movement we've seen in pre-season was just not there for most of today with 10 or 11.

Even Kane made some sloppy tired passes and he'd only been on a few minutes.
I'll give it to Dier, for playing well in 2 positions and the winning goal. Lloris made a couple of match saving saves but his kicking again left us all having kittens, and the unnecessary (heavy) touches he takes led to a few scares...
Townsend looked lively when he came on having our first real attempts but quickly ran out of puff.
And Holtby looked spent very quickly too, although maybe as most of the team were shot by this point after playing 10 V 11 Townsend/Kane and Holtby had to work that bit extra...

Still a lot of work to do with this group but i'm sure Poch will have learned a lot from today, well i hope.

CAPOUE?!?! No chance, he was very poor. Got thrown off the ball way to easily and looked clumsy and slow. Dier was fantastic and I thought Hugo was his good self. Townsend came on and did well too. Eriksen poor match but credit for the through ball to Eric and Kaboul looking very vulnerable as usual unfortunately. Thought Lamela was poor as well... Hope he kicks on big time!! COYS

Thought Capoue was great.Epecially initially with those tackles.

Lloris 7 - Vital save at the end

Naughton 6 - Never a red card

Nocando 5 - I was looking forward to watching Kaboul but he was bullied off the ball easily in the 1st half, lacked a yard of pace, sloppy in possession.

Dier 8 - What a bargain, composed at centre back and looked natural at right back. Good engine, clearly has a brain and an excellent run/composed finish at the end.

Rose 7 - Good game, much better than what he produced week in week out last week.

Capoue 7 - Commanding in central midfield and looked solid at centre back, defended much better than he did last season.

Bentaleb 6 - Kept going all game and got stuck in. He made a couple of mistakes but he protected the centre backs well and helped to limit West Ham's attacking play.

Lamela 6 - Offered little going forward but he was heavily marked before we went a man down. After that he pressed the Spammer's, decent effort.

Lennon 4 - Typical Lennon, anonymous.

Eriksen 6 - Not his best game and off the mark with his free kicks, but he worked hard.

Adebayor 5 - Good run, leading to Collins' red card but he didn't look particularly sharp and lacked energy most of the game.

Townsend 6.5 - Good energy and produced a good effort on goal. Looked a lot more lively than Lennon.

Holtby 6.5 - Also showed good energy and helped our attacks flow better.

Kane 6 - Great pass for Dier's goal but a couple of wayward passes and shot when he should have laid it off.

Poch 8 - Impressive line up on paper. Showed balls to push Dier out to right back and not bring Dawson on, whoop whoop. Definitely worked wonders on the players mentality with their never say die attitude. Very good substitutions and well timed. Moving forward, hopefully he'll recognise Lennon isn't good enough to start games.

Lloris - 7.5 - one particularly crucial save, very good game
Naughton - unfair to give a rating
Kaboul - 5 - some decent defending at times at others dreadful defending
Dier - 8 - solid at CB, great at RB and might even be the best CF in the squad
Rose - 5 - kept on allowing downing to cross under no pressure, better going forwards though
Bentaleb - 7 - thought he did well, moved the ball around and helped us through the 10 vs 11 period with some good possession play. 86 touches with 88% pass rate is good.
Capoue - 6.5 started well before generally being decent when moved to CB. Though he made a few errors.
Lamela - 6.5 - our best threat in the first half, not that that is saying much. Worked hard.
Eriksen - 5 - not his best game. Seemed to give the ball away too often.
Lennon - 6 - offered little going forward but worked fucking hard at 10 vs 11
Ade - 5.5 - looked unfit and offered little, an extra 0.5 given because after 10 vs 11 he was simply given little support

Holtby - 6 decent
Townsend - 7 had a good cameo.
Kane - 7 great ball for the goal. Looked good throughout for the 10 mins.

All in all it wasn't a particularly great match and we didn't play that well. After the harsh sending off (maybe a penalty but the shot was either heading for naughton's chest or Lloris' hands so hardly goal scoring chance) the game complexion completely changed and so it is difficult what to actually make of the team. What I will say though is we did well to fight back and get the 3 points in a situation that last season we may of well ended in a collapse.

Dier had a good game from start to finish, obviously MOTM! Only Lloris had a small claim to the MOTM award apart from Dier.

Kaboul was fucking awfull, I mean, really fucking bad. Won nothing in the air and was bullied by Cole the entire time he was on the pitch. Lamela was bad, Eriksen was bad, Adebayor was bad, Lennon was bad.

Townsend and Holtby changed the game when they came on, both should start the next game.

On a side note I think Kaboul's performance illustrated just how much we need a new CB. He looked so lacklustre and made so many mistakes. Musacchio is a must for me. In the greatest respect as they're our players, but if it were Dawson and Kaboul starting we most likely would have conceded.

Lloris - 8 - Great off the line presence

Naughton - 5 - Wrongfully sent off, but was shaky
Kaboul - 5 - Beasted by Cole and didn't look confident, but still see a player in there
Dier - 9 MOTM - Calm, cool, and collected. Great strikers finish
Rose - 7 - I think he was steady and didn't deserve some of the hate he received

Bentaleb - 6 - not great, not bad. Don't see the pairing of him and Capoue being the way
Capoue - 7 - Did what he was there to do. Would like to see him spraying those cross field balls he was pulling off in preseason

Lamela - 6 - whole front 4 weren't given the chance to press and create
Eriksen - 6 - " "
Lennon - 6 - " "

Ade - 4 - Did nothing. He needs to the driving force in our pressing game. Looked the unmotivated version that we all hate

Holtby - 7 - back to 10 v 10 and pressed. Needs to start as he gets everyone else going
Townsend - 7 - The impact sub we need. Can see him replacing lennon soon
Kane - 7 - Has the vision Ade doesn't and the hold up play soldado doesn't. Would like to see him get more game time.

Poch - 9 - Led his team and will get more players believing after the fight they showed

We really should shift Kaboul. It's not his fault that injuries look to have ruined his ability, but he is dead weight for us at the moment.

I agree old boy, that's got to be the pairing. But my worry is for a third choice, if you just play a ball behind Dawson he is done in a moment. Kaboul used to have such a stride and quickness about him, but now he moves so slow in defensive areas, he gets bullied easily and out jumped. Nowadays he just looks tired all the time. We need a third choice in this window, as Fryers also doesn't seem ready for the challenge.
