...IMO Eriksen, Capoue, and Verts should be rested Thursday, even if it means having Vlad the despairer at CB...would also like to see Dembele and Paulinho get significant game time to see if they could be useful in the PL as starters and/or subs...also Ade is ALWAYS a better option than Soldado at striker...

v Newcastle

(Note: If Poch has the balls to give Fazio his first game against City of all teams, then surely he could drop Kaboul after that pathetic performance and give Chriches a go against 1-win-all-season-Newcastle United. Optimistic?)

Am I one of the only people here that would like to see 2 strikers at home to these teams??
Something like a team of

Lloris
Dier Kaboul Vertonghen rose
Lamela Dembele mason erikson
Soldado Ade

Chirches for Kaboul tonight to give him a break and test chiriches again.
Also if we lack width swap erikson with mason and bring Townsend in.
I think capoue could do with a break and we would benefit with two out and out midfielders than a destroyer against these teams

Kaboul didn't have a good game by any stretch against city, but Vlad vs besiktas was one of the single worst CB performances I have seen for years. Just absolute fundamentals seemed to be beyond vlad. I'd say play him in Europa but even there we need to start winning as we dropped points our first two matches. I don't want to be too hard on the guy but I have never seen a CB like him, its quite fascinating actually how far he's managed to go as a central defender.

If Chirches is going to be given a chance to redeem himself, it's games like this he will be given the chance to do it. Can see him starting to be honest. And I wouldn't complain. Rather that than hang him out to dry. That would be a waste and typical of us. Kevin Prince Boetang springs to mind. Players must be given a chance to atone.

Problem is Chiriches has shown the defensive awareness of a loaf of bread quite often. Against West Brom in the 3-3 last season he was horrendous too. We should have enough to beat these lot with him playing, but still you just wonder how he's going to play as he looks lost at the moment. I hope he pulls a performance out the bag.

Biggest problem with our europa starting eleven is Townsend being included and ruining the game plan with runs to the corner flag and shots to row z. Most important buisiness in january is to get rid of him.

But he's also shown that he can perform to a decent standard. I would say he has probably had more good games than bad but obviously when he has been bad he has been really bad.

All being said though because he has shown he can perform I don't think its a risk playing him in the Europa league.

V Asteras:

Vorm
Walker-Peters Chiriches Fazio Davies
Stambouli Dembele
Townsebd Kane Lennon
Soldado

Subs: Lloris Dier Rose Capoue Eriksen Paulinho Adebayor
V Newcastle

Lloris
Dier Kaboul Vertonghen Rose
Capoue Mason
Lamela Eriksen Chadli
Adebayor*

Subs: Vorm Chiriches Davies Dembele Townsend Kane Soldado
* if one of Kane or Soldado particularly impressed v Asteras, start them v Newcastle as whatever way you look at it, Ade isn't earning his place right now. If neither of them pulls up any trees, stick with the big guy. If, v Asteras, we're winning and comfortable at the hour mark, and one of them has played particularly well, I'd take off that player to save him for a Newcastke start and bring on Paulinho.

Back five picks itself due to the injuries to the Kyles, the suspension to Fazio and the terrible terrible (yes, much much worse than Kaboul) form of Chiriches.

I certainly wouldn't touch the midfield 5. They have now played three games in a row together and have looked better each time, with us looking as creative as I can remember in a long time v City. The Newcastle game may well be the match that they announce themselves properly as our first choice attacking unit for at least the foreseeable future.

Up front is the hardest one. My gut says that Kane deserves a shot, my brain tells me that Adebayor is still capable of clicking and giving is exactly what we need, my heart is telling me that even with the penalty miss, Soldado did well v City and deserves a few games to find form in light of how many Adebayor has had without finding form. As I said above, I believe that Kane and Soldado, who I actually think complement one another nicely, should basically go out v Asteras with a remit of 'win a starting place for Sunday'.

I agree, other than swapping the main strikers round. I'd perhaps consider putting Naughton in against Newastle also, if match fit.

It's not that he has bad games-he just tries off the wall stuff and lacks concentration. He can change that. If he wants to he can become a top player. I would keep giving him chances until January.

Our biggest problem in home games is nobody being in the box for our creative players to pass to. It has to be 4-4-2 for both these games.

Starting Chiriches would have the crowd on edge from the off, perhaps it would be better to re-establish him in an away game.

Watching Spurs is already the cliched rollercoaster ride but starting Chiriches is like being on the ride with the seat belt off...

I can think of some slightly more important business to do than getting rid of a fringe player..............although if the right offer comes in it should be considered. Still have a slight feeling he could come good with the right coaching (only slight mind you:p)

Townsend is a rough diamond ATM I have a feeling it's all going to click into place sooner rather than later with him

Do you believe he is ruinig the game plan? Do you not think that by now Poch would've banished him for not following orders?

I would like to see Walker-Peters at RB tonight, allowing Dier to play CB. I have been impressed with Dier so far taking into account his age, inexperience in the PL, and having to play out of position. I'd give him at least half a game at CB. From all I have read about Dier he is a real leader, captaining nearly every Portugese youth/club team he has played in. Given the performances of some of our more experienced CBs, it may be time to consider Dier as other than a "reserve" CB and I believe he deserves a chance to stake that claim.

Our backup options for the 3 behind the striker really are fucking pony.

Getting rid of Holtby and keeping Lennon, Townsend and Paulinho will likely be our downfall in the Europa, I just can't ever envisage a fluid performance if those three play.

I think we'd have been much better off having Pritchard back in the fold for the Europa games. At least he's got some guile and craft about him. Anyway...

vs Tripolis

Vorm
Dier Fazio Chiriches Davies
Capoue
Dembele Stambouli
Lamela Kane Townsend
Lamela and Capoue only played an hour each on saturday, so hopefully we can wrap the game up pretty early and give them a rest. Bring on KW-P for Dier if we're relatively comfortable as well.

vs Newcastle

Lloris
Dier Kaboul Vertonghen Rose
Capoue Mason
Lamela Eriksen Chadli
Soldado

I prefer it when these threads are separate, if only because maybe someone will have a stormer in the EL and earn a call up to the PL squad a la Mason.
