Our biggest problem in home games is nobody being in the box for our creative players to pass to. It has to be 4-4-2 for both these games.

We can still have players in the box playing formations other than 442. As I understand it we play a fluid front four so between all those players it is their job to get in the box.

If anything playing a 4-2-3-1 can be seen as more attacking as the full backs need to provide the width and therefore its allows the 4 attacking players to be closer to the opposition box rather tan 2 of them being stuck out on the touchline.

I prefer it when these threads are separate, if only because maybe someone will have a stormer in the EL and earn a call up to the PL squad a la Mason.

Think it worls well as it is - it seems to have made some SC'ers realise that playing the same 11 players twice a week may not be the best solution.

And if Chirches (by some miracle) scores a hatrick (for Spurs) as well as keeping the opposition strikers in his pocket for the entire game tonight, it doesn't prevent them changing the PL team after the EL game has ended.

Our backup options for the 3 behind the striker really are fucking pony.

Getting rid of Holtby and keeping Lennon, Townsend and Paulinho will likely be our downfall in the Europa, I just can't ever envisage a fluid performance if those three play.

I think we'd have been much better off having Pritchard back in the fold for the Europa games. At least he's got some guile and craft about him. Anyway...

vs Tripolis

Vorm
Dier Fazio Chiriches Davies
Capoue
Dembele Stambouli
Lamela Kane Townsend
Lamela and Capoue only played an hour each on saturday, so hopefully we can wrap the game up pretty early and give them a rest. Bring on KW-P for Dier if we're relatively comfortable as well.

vs Newcastle

Lloris
Dier Kaboul Vertonghen Rose
Capoue Mason
Lamela Eriksen Chadli
Soldado

I agree with your assessment of the backup AM3. They're decent squad players I would have to concede, but the moment you put all three together they probably just exacerbate each other's deficiencies. I think there needs to be more fluidity in the starting XIs of our league and Europa games. Just one of Chadli Lamela or Eriksen would vastly improve the play.

...IMO Eriksen, Capoue, and Verts should be rested Thursday, even if it means having Vlad the despairer at CB...would also like to see Dembele and Paulinho get significant game time to see if they could be useful in the PL as starters and/or subs...also Ade is ALWAYS a better option than Soldado at striker...
COYS

Well you'll be pleased to see Ade is starting in the Europa game, long may that continue. Paulinho, didn't make it!

I am coming down from the high and thinking about MoPo's reaction to tonight's game.
He was a defender and let's face it our defence was poor tonight. I hope he blames the defenders and not the system. I fear the latter.

Why can't he play just because he's in dev?

No because his name had not been submitted to UEFA on LIst B (the players under age of 21 who have played for the club for more than 2 years). The list can be amended up to 24 hours before the next game, so KWP COULD be in next EL squad if Poch chooses t0.

For me Kane has to play vs Newcastle now in the 10 role but who drops out? I would leave out chadli and move eriksen to the left. Very harsh on chadli but how can you leave Kane out after last nights performance

Townsend is a rough diamond ATM I have a feeling it's all going to click into place sooner rather than later with him

I've been having this thought too...

Kane deserves to start behind the striker after last night.

In my humble opinion Soldado deserves another go up top after the City game.

You simply must start Lamela after last night.

Eriksen is hitting form.

Chadli has come up with the goals in the league.

I'm really not sure ho I would play it now, before last night I was adamant that I wanted the 4 from the Man City game to start.

Would much rather either just push Chadli up to striker than bench him. He's put in a solid shift himself, and doesn't deserve being dropped over our other two strikers. Also, I still think Chadli would be a superb striker, and especially in a rotational forward system.

Your right chadli doesn't deserve to be dropped but neither do lamela or eriksen but as I said Kane's goals and performances can't be ignored from the 10 position anymore.
Not sure about chadli upfront TBH completely different role to the one he has been playing

I think Kane played well against Tripoli but you need to get it into perspective, they are only a top 6 side from the Greek league. He won't get anywhere near that time and space against Newcastle.

I wouldn't change the attacking four that started at Man City. Kane should be in line to make an appearance from the bench though.
