Love the itk, not so sure i love the reaction from some. Perhaps a reality check is needed. Harry kane has had one good season, well 2/3 of the season before trying to do everything himself. There is absolutely nothing to guarantee he will do the same (although i hope he does). 40million is a huge opening bid for someone so unproven in terms of consistency. Even players like michael ricketts and kenwynne jones looked good for a season.
In simple monetary terms alexis sanchez (done it for barca, looked good at a wirkd cup) and higuain (done it for real madrid and napoli) went for less than the reported 40mil.
I understand us all feeling its not right to even entertain a bid because hes one if our own but from a business point of view???
If he plays next season as he ended this you might struggle to get 10million for him.

To clarify i do rate him and want him to stay but to think 40million undervalues him is in my opinion rediculous. No such thing as a local boy levy

JJ gave me another wink on Twitter, indicating that he's still confident on Imbula.

Or he's in love with me.

Or he's trying to shut me the fuck up.

Really sick of looking things "from a business point of view." I sincerely doubt that when this club was founded, they all said "hey, let's start a business." We are already winning the financial league. Our support needs to stop making excuses for ownership selling our best players.

I dont think we should sell him and certainly dont think business should be the first consideration. However my point was more that 40million is a lot for someone with one good season under their belt regardless of whether they are a local boy or not

Totally agree.. I don't give a feck about the profit we make, I just want excitement and trophies..

(Cue; some sensible uptight poster saying "well you can't have one without the other..,a well run ship " etc etc)

It's not because he's "one of our own" it's because of the circumstances right now. He's just had one of the best seasons that a 21yo have ever had, he counts as home grown for the quota rules, he does more than score, he works and holds the ball up. So it's about buying into ski high potential and that costs big, especially when it earns you earns you home grown pointage.

He is being over hyped, of course, but that hype is white hot at the moment.

Considering Liverpool sold Carroll to West Ham for £15mill I'd say £10mill is a very low ball estimate of what Kane would be worth after a bad season.

From a business view £40mill is not good money. For a start, it's very difficult to replace your best players unless you can buy proven top players and you can't buy them unless you can pay the huge wages. We can't do that.

Even paying top dollar for that proven player is a risk. It's all well and good using Sanchez as an example but Arsenal have signed 2 big money players recently and whilst Ozil has his moments, for what they got he's still very expensive at £42mill and £150k a week. Then there's Di Maria who looked well suited to the Prem, the £15mill loan of Falcao, after that there's Cuadrado looked quality at the World Cup and there's just so many more examples where big money has been wasted. It's a risk that no sensible business would take unless they had to.

Again on the business side, at the moment we're paying Kane £30-40k per week, that's extremely cheap for any striker getting into the double digits for league goals. Even if we signed a replacement within our means, lets say that's £100k a week, we're paying over £3mill more a year to get what we already had! That's not good business.

I'd start the bidding at £200mill, not because he's worth it in terms of goals but because that's the kind of money we'd need to compete with the clubs above us for signing new players whilst keeping our own best players(other than Kane, obviously).

Also a bad last third of the season was it? Kane played 34 league games, if you call a 3rd as 11 then he scored 7 goals in his last 11 matches. He had a blinder from start to finish last season, a couple of quiet games when the whole team was playing like crap doesn't change that.

More on Imbula and Martial:

Yidforlife19 ‏@THFCSPURS19 18m18 minutes ago
@jetsetyid Well supposedly they need to sell someone by 30th June, so I guess that's why we're haggling.

@THFCSPURS19 we aren't haggling .....yet Martial is proving challenging as Monaco don't want to sell

And on Trippier:

We arent haggling yet on imbula? Meaning Imbula might want too much wages so if he does, we'll go back to the club and haggle
