Because Trippier can take better advantage of the spaces that Swansea will hand us as he has an excellent delivery, nothing to do with sentiment more to do with tactics.

Trippier's crossing skills are useful admittedly, but I maintain we should go with the best team.

Would be awesome if Wanyama is fit by league cup game as could give him and Winks some game time in the middle.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Wanyama is fully fit again as for me he is still the superior defensive midfielder, although if Dier plays well then he should keep the spot.

Hmmmmm. I'd be tempted to leave out Sanchez and bring in Alli, purely to get another attacking player on the pitch in this game.

We've got some tough games coming up and with that in mind I'd stick with Aurier and Sanchez just to get them more settled in. I'd like to see Trippier and Llorente as a double sub at some point (not necessarily v Swansea) since I think they could be a great combination. Would also like to see Winks get a start ahead of Dembele who seems a bit out of sorts.

I would start a more aggressive 4-1-2-2-1.... then revert to 3-3-3-1 later. I think we lack covers for CB with Wanyama out. So even Trippier starts, we don't have a issue in defense.

After beating a top side like Dortmund confidence high....
So why change it....same team as weds. Dele has to sit out Son deserves to play.

Son looked gassed towards the end of Dortmund so I am not sure where he is physically with recovery but for a long time he rarely played more than 60mins for us. I don't want too many changes but I would not be surprised if one of our back line was rested so they could play Tuesday and the upcoming fixtures. Not sure. The quick turn around to Saturday then quick turnaround to Tuesday makes it hard as we don't have alot of CB depth at the moment.

My guess:
Lloris
Aurier-Toby-Jan-Davies
Dier-Dembele
Eriksen-Kane-Alli
Llorente

Would be a very narrow lineup but Swansea are weak through the middle of the pitch. I think one of Toby, Jan, or Sanchez gets rested and starts Tuesday.

We played both against Everton and we looked fine, we lacked pace against Chelsea and Burnley because both teams sat deep and negated the space for our full backs to run into, Swansea aren't expected to sit deep or be as defensively minded as Burnley.
You do remember our last game with Swansea (under Clement)? where we struggled to break them down for almost 90 minutes. And the 5-0 in the first fixture (bob bradley)? I think all signs point to the bus being well and truly parked. And they just lost to Newcastle so I don't think they will come to our gaff looking to play just yet.

I also wonder if this is a game where he gives Toby or Jan a rest and puts Sanchez in a 4 to get him some work there. Or does he wait to do that in the Barnsley game?

Lloris
Toby Sanchez Vertongen
Aurier Dier Eriksen Davies
Alli
Kane Son

Trippier & KWP can rotate midweek for the League Cup. Dembele shouldn't be playing 2 games in a row with such a short turnaround because of his injury issues. Son deserves to start after his performance against Dortmund.

Lloris

Alderweireld Sanchez Vertonghen

Aurier ------------------------------------------- Davies

Dier ----- Eriksen

Dele ------------------- Son

Kane
Don't think we need as much in terms of midfield protection for this one, and we will need as many attackers on the pitch as possible to break down what I'm sure will be a complete rearguard action from Swansea.

So get Eriksen playing a bit deeper and dictating play from there, with both Dele and Son offering options off Kane and Davies and Aurier offering the width.

That's what I'd like but I've got a feeling we might go back to a 4231 formation for this one.

Because we have to utilise the squad and rotate to go deep in four comps and peak in the run-in.
Yes agree
But not so early in the season,...they aren't made of glass.....Barnsley wholesale changes is the time to rest players.
I think they can handle two games in a row at this stage of the season

Lloris
Toby Sanchez Vertonghen
Aurier Dier Winks Davies
Dele Son
Kane

Subs: Vorm, Trippier, KWP, Dembele, Sissoko, Eriksen, Llorente

Keep the same defensive line so they can gel well together. Winksy will add quicker more dynamic passing in the middle that'll be important against a tight Swansea back line. Son's pace and Dele's footwork will work well in creating space.
