Honestly no idea how anyone can defend dele. He had his usual game, running up blind alleys getting fouled, losing the ball constantly, and flicks that never come off.

Alli was fine. I don't see any need to shit on him.
I have to say that I thought Alli was the worst out there today for us. This sounds worse than it is, because that was an excellent team performance today, very rarely were we troubled and, when we were, we dealt with it well at the back.

Were I Poch, I’d be having a word with Dele, rest him for a bit and get him back to basics on the training pitch. Coco is ready for a start, that much seems obvious, so give him minutes for match fitness whilst Poch works with Dele on his ball retention. He’s gotten a bit “powder puff” with his hitting the deck from virtually every challenge, with very few going our way. Who knows, it may just benefit him in the long run.

he's out of form, for sure. but "Lamela is a better player by a mile" is what's getting the negative reps.

Stoke were the poorest team I've seen in a long time.
We were much sharper but beat them anyway at a stroll.
Much more like it. Deck the hall with boughs of holly, Fa, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la!
'Tis the season to be jolly, Fa, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la! Fill the meadcup, drain the barrel, Fa, la, la, la, la, la, la, la!

Lloris............6........Don't come or call if you're not going to get the ball.Pity
Trippier.........6........A little hesitant at times. Whip em in boy.
Dier...............7.......Sound today.
Vertonghen...7.......Should take the ball forward more. Defensively OK.
Davies..........6........Lost a bit of his panache. That's Danny's hot breathe you can feel.
Dembele.......7........Much better and for a whole game too. Saw a lot of the ball.
Winks............7+.....Do I not like this boy. Kept passing to Dembers to tire him out but got subbed himself in any case.
Erikson..........7+.....Sharper today and some good positive passes.
Dele...............7.......Much more with it and in the game.
Son................8.......At his lively best apart from a couple of blunders. MOM.
Kane..............7.......Should have scored at least 4 but 2 will do.

Lamela....Makes a difference. A breath of fresh air.

Out of form? Or did the goals just paper over the cracks. Technically it’s very hard to make a case dele is near Lamela. You could see as soon as he came on the link up with winks and eriksen was different class is just flows. For me dele makes our play disjointed. I’ve always thought if you took away his goals there’s not to much left.

goals are pretty important. and assists, and Dele had one today. As far as the flow, I didnt see any difference - we ran riot over them all day. And part of the reason it seems like Dele wastes a lot of chances is because he gets the ball in more difficult positions precisely because he is capable of pulling it off.

Would be nice to see Lamela given some time but would prefer it in a 3-4-2-1 or 3-5-2 so he can play a bit more inside and with more freedom.

Could have ended your post after the first 3 words fella
Stats don’t lie:
Dele Alli pass completion 67.9% the lowest by miles everyone else over 80%.
Total passes 28 only Kane was lower with 19.

67.9% For AM is pretty awful by any standards.

Was a treat to see Lamela today. What a player we have been missing. I wouldn’t start him yet. Ease him back and more of these cameos please.

But he scores enough to make it worthwhile.

We still weren’t as quick out of the blocks as I’d like but that was more like it. 90 minutes of dominance, much more fluid and cohesive, some great moves and a score line which did not flatter us. Butland was Stoke’s best player and he conceded 5. The formation helped, having three atrackers behind Kane made us far more unpredictable, and several players looked good for their midweek break. Toby and Wanyama in for Dier and Dembele and that’s our best lineup. Deserved big win.

Lloris was generally okay, played out well, mopped up most things and made one very good save, but he really did cock up for their goal.

Trippier got forward well, linked nicely with Winks and used the ball intelligently but the backpass which lead to their goalscorimg corner would’ve made Kyle Walker blush.

Dier was fine, little to do, used his pace well.

Vertonghen was his usual self, composed and reliable with some excellent distribution.

Davies was a great threat all match, linked well with Son and played a beautiful cross for Kane’s header.

Winks grew into the game and once our lead made Stoke open up more he really started pinging the ball around nicely.

Dembele started sloppy but as the game evolved his strength, composure and technique were integral to our dominance.

Eriksen had his best game in ages, much more decisive, good array of passing and a nicely taken goal.

Dele played a beautiful pass for Son’s goal but otherwise was disappointing, overdoing things and choosing too many complicated options when the simple move would’ve been more effective.

Son was our best player, his energy, pace and ingenuity was key to unlocking an initially stubborn defence and then on the counter his ability to stride forward with the ball was our best outlet. Unstoppable currently.

Kane’s all round game was fine, good link up play, a couple of extraordinary passes and touches, looked much fitter, but in front of goal he was profligate by his standards. Still scored two. Looks back to his most menacing.

Lamela had a great cameo, he looked purposeful, imaginative and confident. I’d start him v Brighton.

Sissoko and Llorente had little impact.

I did suggest this sometime ago, that his goals masked a lot of his flaws which most seem to overlook and I was therefore shot down. The thing is in my opinion he has not been much worse that he had last season only that the goals have dried up and teams have sussed him out, leaving him looking exposed. I have always said that he was overhyped in the sense that peope believe that he is better than he actually is. Not for a minute saying he is bad mind you.

I think he merits a start. Maybe a full 90 would be too much, but I’d give him a start over Dele atm.

I had worries that he’d come back slow and out of sorts with the pace of the game, much as he did a couple of years ago when he came back from his previous injury, but he doesn’t look like he’s been away a few weeks, let alone a year.
