How does that logic work when we've been poor for the entire season and all of our players have been fit until relatively recently?

Our performances are appallingly poor virtually every week. Are you honestly saying that without Conte this squad would be performing even worse? Seriously?
Conte's is trying to create a team with many long standing players who cant adjust naturally to his ideas. It will happen , it needs time and players . Our resuts are good , our performances are poor. , yes.
Our tean spirit and resolve is excellent.

Im not sure what I saw last night but Im sure not going ti complain ,

Sorry disagree. You need to remove bias and give credit where its due. After the lackluster first half, Royal gave us that spark we needed. One player shows the initiative and it encourage others to follow. He was breaking up the play on the right and playing pisitive forward passes. He is allowed to have a good game even though hes not a great footbalk player..
Credit where credit is due, he was great when he came on

Lets hope he continues to forage on in such vain

Blimey you are miserable aren't you. I'm not saying we are world beaters currently. But you are in the "top 3" of posters who continually slags off the team and are in the desperately small "Conte out" group
Yep, I'm truly miserable because I point out how poorly my beloved spurs are playing.

I live a blessed life, with a wonderful family, nice properties, a well paying career that I love, I'll go skiing soon and spend the summer in cyprus. Yep, truly miserable.

Its a forum. We discuss stuff. Look at the vast majority of my posts. I never insult the players or manager, not ever. I've spent most of my 41 years as a spurs fan being relentlessly positive. I have actual discussions about what I think is wrong etc. I'm just not a fan of the way that we play and think, like many on here and pundits, that we could be playing in a far more effective way.

Are you telling me that you think that we are playing well? Our tactics are good? We are entertaining?

Brilliant to go through top, will give us a proper chance of going through to the quarters.

The main thing keeping me going with this odd 'play like idiots first half and pull it out second half' is there is something to work with - if Conte can harness the second half spirit and approach we might not be tearing our collective hair out every game.

A combination needed of giving credit where it's due and not just glossing over the first half performances...

Maybe it IS my bias, but I don’t think he had a great cameo at all. He passed the ball and intercepted the ball once or twice, sure. But he also had acres of space down the wing and turned back, ending any attack. And he lost the ball on the edge of our box to set up a chance for Marseille to win the game. He’s completely ineffective going forward, and isn’t that useful defending.

If we play like we normally do in the opening 30 mins v Liverpool we'll be 5-0 down

Again, that's my issue with Conte

It we perform like we have been we will, but the tactics could work if we actually performed at the required level to pull it off.

And if we perform like we do in the second half from kick off we will have nothing in the tank at 60 mins.

I personally think that the tactic to soak up pressure in the first half and hit teams on the break is not a bad tactic..... It just looks fucking awful when we execute it like we have been doing for the most part this season.

I think for the most part since Conte has been here the answer to all your questions is yes.

Even in the microcosm of each game are you telling me we didn't play well, we weren't entertaining or had bad tactics in the second half yesterday?

We played shite for a half and well for a half and for me you just don't seem to acknowledge the good and seem Uber focussed on the bad.

Nice response until you used Uber.

This is insane.

I think there was a lot more pressure on Marseille than on us.

I think we set out to contain them and not concede for the first 20 but the combination of the crowd, the situation and adrenaline meant we ended up penned in for the whole of the first half.

In the second half both Marseille and their fans were noticeably quieter and more subdued as the nerves set in and they had something to lose.

I think this forum sometimes forgets that the opposition have an impact on the game and it’s not just about Spurs being great or shite.

Great to grab the winner at the end as we should avoid any of the giants. Anyone know when the draw is?

I agree he’s not one of the best football players around but yesterday, Royal helped the change the attitude. Sometimes you need a strong tackle, a moment of individual brilliance. Royals contribution was simply a positive attitude. You can’t fault him for effort.

You may well be right and certainly you are entitled to your opinion. I won't insult you by insinuating that you are deluded.

I'm generally a glass half full person but I am very much progress focused. I've played several sports at a decent level and have always prioritised performance over result, particularly in tennis. I want to feel that I have played well, I honestly don't care if I win or not. I figure that if I continue to play well, winning will be a byproduct of my performance.

Yes, we have played well at times, but in general I would say that we have played poorly more often even if the results have been good.

I guess that my issue is that I don't see where we are going. What is conte trying to produce?

I also don't like or enjoy low-block football at all. I think it is outdated and has been superceded by the high press as the dominant philosophy in modern football.

Ultimately, I watch spurs because they are one of the passions of my life. When they aren't giving me that passion I will complain about it.

If I am ruining the forum with my constant negative focus, as you assert, the mods are free to remove me.
