Do we need Dier now?

Talk about overreactions to a one off fluky game. Dier is a fantastic utility player. He’s not as good a DM as Wanyama. He’s not as good a CB as Toby, Vertongen, or Sanchez. But he can step in for any of those players with very little drop off. He can even play RB in a pinch. Players like Dier are hard to find and every great team needs them. Wanting him sold off is ridiculous.

Wanyama only joined last season. So how have Dier and Wanyama had two seasons together? FFS.
Nobody said that.

English not a strong point?

15-16 dier in the middle.

16-17 wanyama different class. Dier terrible start to the season next to Wanyama with dembele out. Dembele comes in and we unexpectedly play 3 at the back. Again dier does well there We also had a period with Vertonghen out.

17-18 Awful in midfield with Wanyama and Dembele out. Not as good as Sanchez. Turned down 60m which he isnt worth in a million years.

Short memories allover the shop, Yes, we expected him to be a utility last year and this, circumstantially, he hasn’t been, still hasn’t put in any 60m performances.

Nobody is saying sell him for 20-30 m. THe bid was 60m it was crazy money.

When you consider exactly what you just said, and think what we got for the less money, Wanyama, Sanchez and Trippier, pushing Dier down the pecking order in 3 positions. Then you realise how mental that amount of money is.

Sorry my mistake, thought August 2017 was 3 months ago, counting obviously isn’t my strong point
Amusing, but do you post every opinion you have here?

I just wanted to see how rose tinted this board still is. The conclusion was damning....

How anyone can argue that the first few months this season has proven correct their argument that we don’t need Dier is beyond me. If anything it’s proven how incredibly important he is in this squad.

He’s the primary backup to 4 of our starting XI. If we sold him it would take over £60m to replace his contribution in the squad, and not a chance would it let us also improve in other positions as the OP is suggesting.

Because he has played well in 25% of his games?

Nobody could have predicted that both wanyama and dembele woukd have 4-5 appearances between them coming into November.

We have had an injury crisis in midfield, and it certainly hasnt been solved by Diers performances. Funnily enough our two biggest performances of the season, were the previous 2 games. No Dier in midfield....

how do you even arrive at 4?

Wanyama yes, he covers him poorly.

Dembele? If wanyama was fit playing Dier next to him has been a proven catastrophe for us as an attacking force.

If we have injuries at the back, we can do something really wild like playing 2 centre halves.....

If we knew Dembele was gonna be in bits, we shouldnt have put all our eggs into ross Barkey as the solution.

Nobody could have predicted it? Jesus, half the replies to the opening post were that we need him for that exact reason - squad depth, rotation and injury cover. It’s a squad game.

If Sanchez, Toby or Jan goes down and Wanyama is fit, do you think it’s 19yo Foyth coming into the team or do you think it’s Dier?

You are missing the point as you have done throughout!!!

1) he is not good enough in midfield to be considered a midfield replacement. In fact, I dont want to be balanced anymore I will put it out there, he is PONY in midfield. Decent positioning, not athletic enough, pedestrian on the ball, no where near title winning quality if we want to consider ourselves in that bracket.

2). We are not rich enough to have a 60 million pound 12th man.

That money could have been used on genuine quality in midfield with plenty left over and we would have still had 5 centre halves in the squad.

Here he is old Tiger66, cant see your posts geez they were blocked about 5 years ago, but I can see the ratings.

Tiger66 ‘s current midfielders in the world list

1 winks
2 Dembele
3 wanyama
4 Dier
5 Marcus Edwards

What style rose tints you got on today?Something fresh by Dior, or the little round circular ones that only Lennon could get away with? (Thats John, Not Aaron)

I love Eric Dier.
I love him too, just as I loved Stefan Freund. But would you love being a better football team more?

Don't get me wrong we've come on bundles, but you've always gotta look where to improve, even if you WIN the league, and if you can have someones eyes out in the process, even better.

I admire your gusto, but you're wildly wrong on this one.
