I watched the Croatia U20s vs Chile U20s yesterday. Rebic was clearly Croatia's best player but still didn't particularly impress me. He's a hell of a worker though; strong, a bit of pace and some decent skills. He needs to work on his decision making though as on a few occasions he had hopeful shots in poor positions when passing was a much better option. Chile won a fairly even match 2-0 basically because their striker Castillo was the best player on view. I've long been a fan of the Chilean youth set up as they've produced some very entertaining football but I don't think this current team is as good as recent years.

Personally I wouldn't bother with Rebic. He's not bad but at the prices suggested we could apparently sign Bojan Krcic who despite his career stalling recently is two classes above and plays the same positions as Rebic.

Don't judge him too harshly based on appearances for an international U21 team. That decision making thing is partly to do with unfamiliarity (ie not playing with his regular team mates) and partly due to age. He's 19.

Watch as much youtube as you can on this boy. He's got the lot, but most importantly he's got that bullish mentality. He has no fear. He can run at players, finish in and out the box and also show some real deft touches too. He can play central or wide forward. He reminds me of Suarez or maybe Rooney in his skill set make-up. Skill but also that tenacious nature that makes all the difference.

I think for 5m it's a stonker of a bargain.

IIRC I read somewhere the other day that Fiorentina had offered €3.5 million for him and it was turned down and that he would be allowed to leave for €5 million. Which in the era of hugely inflated transfer fees does not seem too extravagant.
At that price, for a 19 year old, it seems like a no brainer. Even if he bombs here, you'd expect Levy would still get at least £2.5m for him in a few years, plus another few hundred thousand pounds in fees from the inevitable loans we'd send him on if he isn't ready for our squad.

Strange that now club have made an decent offer for him yet. There are plenty of clubs in need of a striker and this guy seem to have plenty of talent. Seem to are the key words though...

Personally I'd like both.
I just can't see him (Halilovic) adding much.

If we develop him into anything that resembles greatness he will immediately demand a transfer to a bigger club. Total headcase with him and his family. Not to mention acquiring him requires catering to their every need which sets a horrible precedent.

Rebic: There is the offer purple. Zuzul think about it, but then says: "There's no hurry!"

La Fiorentina seems really determined to bring home Ante Rebic. The young Croatian striker has made quite a stir during the last week because there was his debut (with goals) with the senior national team of his country. And now, according to what emerges from circles close to RNK Split, or the team that holds the ownership of his card, the offer would come too purple for him: € 4.5 million plus 20% of the amount collected by a its possible future sale. The President of the Croatian club, Slaven Zuzul, he sensed the business and for less than 5.5 million Euros (plus bonus) does not seem willing to give it, at least for now. "There's no hurry," he cut short the number one Split.

If that reported offer is accurate, and RNK Split (Slaven Zuzul) indeed turned it down, it's clear that there are other clubs in the mix, and I would say they had a clear suggestion that a bigger offer was in the offing. That's a huge offer for a player out of Croatia who's not playing for either Dinamo or Hajduk. However, had he already been at Dinamo, there's no chance you'd be able to get him for so little. Just the way the market works.

Middlesbrough? Apparently Alen Boksic will be bringing their reps to meet with RNK Split tomorrow. They have prepared an offer and want Rebic "at all costs" (whatever that means).

This would be typical THFC really. He's available for €5m now, but we'll let Middlesbrough get him and then show an interest next summer when they'll be willing to sell for £10m+.. Same with Yilmaz last summer, available for €5m, we show an interest (apparently) but don't follow it up, then he tears it up in his domestic league and in the CL (8 in 9) and we were linked with him again, but this time for £17m. I really hope we take a punt on this kid.

It means that they've emptied the cash out of the condom machine in the gents toilet.

So far Fiorentina have tabled the best offer, both transfer fee and personal terms. They do expect some English clubs to get involved by the end of the week, however.

Middlesbrough came and left, but they were unable to better Fiorentina's offer. "Signals" are that Tottenham, Swansea, and Liverpool are all expected to join the race for Rebic and place bids in the coming days..

Again, no quotes, just speculation.

Same story, but this time their heading reads:

"Rebic a step away from Fiorentina!

Only a big offer from Liverpool or Tottenham could spoil the deal."

Again, they write (based on whispers that they're hearing) that offers are expected to come in from Spurs, Pool and Swansea.

Another report from today claims Rebic himself rejected a move to Middlesbrough.
