Trix:

"Definite interest on our part, managers preference but waiting to assess his options. The interest though is mutual"

So, other than the fact this guy plays for Madrid and is a DM/CM, I know nothing about him. For those of you who've seen him play can we have a little scout report?

Before anyone says 'going to Liverpool'- the Liverpool Echo journalists (usually reliable) have said they are not interested.

Then again, the schools are so amazing there that he may beg them to sign him.

Never seen him prior to Madrid, I know he was highly rated but can anyone more informed offer an actual opinion as to how class he is?

I know he's a bit more of an alrounder than Sven Bender, but anyone who has seen much of him - how good is his passing? Is it getting up there towards Schneiderlin and Kramer level?

He's been seen as a disappointment at Real Madrid, but prior to that he was quality for Real Sociedad and played a big part in helping them qualify for the Champions League. Despite Madrid paying €30m or so for him, he never really got a chance and really fell out of favour under Ancelotti, who apparently didn't trust him. He's a really good player though and I think he'd fit in perfectly with us.

This reminds me a lot of the Van der Vaart situation, so hopefully it works out that way.

He went to Madrid for a huge sum, over 30 million if i recall correctly. Looks a classy player. We need to get on this shit!

Loved watching him his last season at San Sebastian, if he can play at that level again he would be fantastic signing. Hard to judge him since the transfer to Madrid, he never really got consistent gametime.

I'm a little nervous about him - played for 2 Spanish clubs (Real Sociedad and Real Madrid) and has played just over 100 Spanish league games in total for these 2 clubs.

So will he easily adjust to the physicality and speed of the PL and does he have the experience we need at CM/DM ?

I'm sure he's a good player - but is he what we need as a CM/DM now ?

I love his composure - casual twist, turn, flick over a defenders tackle - the kind of player that makes you clap with that bit of class - good passers too.

I'm all over this - I like Bender too as a beast player - either would offer something to the first 11!

Plus RM owe us one seriously

Prefer the Scout Nation vid from his time at Sociedad......

Redondo/Alonso like. Calms play down, great first touch and skills in tight spaces, very good vision and long range passing. Not afraid to put a boot in and has good tactical discipline and positioning.
