And that is that. Once Atletico were in we all knew it was over.

It was fun dreaming with all of you, but I'm happy we still have 24 M in the bank...

No, but he had said he wanted to stay in La Liga if he could. We're not in La Liga. Putting 2+2 together...

He also said he wanted Real Madrid, so AM might not have the same appeal if that is his longer term hope

I liked this player for a couple years now, but Atl Mad will most likely use some of their costa money and land him...

such a shame...

Wow, that was a very quick transfer, I wish our work was as quick.

It shouldn't be that hard once you agree the buy out clause, obviously you then have to know the player is happy too and tie up the contract, but it was always looking that Sociedad would let him leave for a club offering the buy out, agree that and your over halfway there

Levi has no right to expect our manager to get top 4 when we dither over targets. Althetico Madrid is not a financial power house so they shouldn`t be outbidding us. Maybe it`s all paper talk but we don`t seem to have a focused buying policy. If we don`t have the funds because of Stadium commitments the Fans should be told this.

The La Liga champions, beaten Champions League finalists who are in the Champions League once again. Staying in a league which contains Ronaldo, Messi, Bale, Neymar, Suarez, James etc. I've no idea why some fans think we could've beat Atl. Madrid to his signature.

Sounds like you're saying we were definitely in for Griezmann but messed about at the last minute and that's why we didn't get him? I think it's more likely that we enquired about him but he didn't want to come here when he could also play for the Spanish champions and CL finalists.

Chelsea just took three of their plquerd off them and will probably take a third

chelsea just took two players from them and will probably take a third. Even if we had Champions league I dont think our board would act that decisively. This was not Real Madrid.. You never hear Spurs are interested in a player and the deal gets done quickly. Always some drama it seems

Imagine we had just won the premier league and reached the CL final. Would we be at all concerned about transfer market competition from a non-CL non-wealthy club from an inferior league?

Perspective required.

We are wealthy enough just need to show prospective players we have ambition and are going places. I just think we give a mixed message. We spent big last season and I dont think that money is wasted as those players have a years premier league experience now. But if we dont continue to strengthen it will have been for nothing. We have at least £30 million extra from the premier league pluswe spent nothing last two seasons so we should easily be able to spend another £50 million without financial difficulties. Looking at the players that have left I do not think our wage bill is any different to two years ago

Except this whole transfer rumour seems to be a case of paper talk.....the original story came out of Spain and was picked up by all the UK papers because it would be major news.

Despite it being major news, none of the "reliable" writers who cover Spurs bothered to write an article covering it, none of them even mentioned it in another one of their articles. The only mentions that any of the pseudo reliable reporters gave was a tweet from Stobart saying that there was "some interest" and a tweet from Lyall Thomas rubbishing the report of a bid having been made. That's it.....nothing else. Doesn't make it seem like the talk was all that definitive.

Reporters who would be tripping over each other to put the story in the paper with information that they could get from their contacts didn't write anything. From our ITKs JJ said flat out it was agent talk and none of the other ITKs seemed to be able to get any information regarding it until just before Atleti made their bid.

There just wasn't enough traction on the story to definitively say we were actually close to making any kind of effort to sign Greizmann.

Add into it that Atleti don't actually have to outbid us, just trigger the release clause and then offer similar wages to us. Then it becomes a sales pitch....would you rather move to a team in the PL that underachieved and swapped out a manager or move to a team that just won La Liga and were runner up to the CL title under a manager who the players seemed to love.....one seems like a much better sales pitch than the other.

I don't think we're poor; I think we're financially limited.

We can afford to buy an expensive player on reasonably high wages if the circumstances are right, but my point was that unlike clubs such as Monaco, PSG and City, we are not in position where our USP to prospective big-name signings can be £££

1. All the ITK indicated that Griezmann was not our first choice, either due to price, other targets, or him not being keen on us.

2. Atlético is a huge draw right now, they have quite possibly the best manager in the world, a great team with most of the core of last season retained, CL finalists and defending league champions. Griezmann will be in the CL and gets to play in a league he knows he excels in. Easy choice IMO.

3. Chelsea bought players off them? Tough shit. Chelsea are guaranteed CL regulars and they pay absolutely exorbitant wages.
