I hate that sometimes I can hear mine and my mates voices when we sing at the Lane.

I'm 24 and sit in Park Lane lower and leave the ground, whether we've won, lost or drawn, with a broken voice.

I'd sing on my own
I'd sing on my oooooowwwwwn
Cos Im Tottenham
I'd sing on my own

Some people have gotten to an age where the singing is beneath them. Bit sad really
I sit in a quiet section. I'd love the idea of starting the singing there. If I just stand up, start a song, they'd all join in, right? Truth is, if you're in a section which is pretty quiet in general, you tend to think the one bloke standing singing on his own is either bladdered or a nob. Or both. And usually you're right. I've given up on there ever being an atmosphere at this end but I do expect it from the Park Lane, that end of the Shelf and pockets of the North. If you guys don't do it, it doesn't get done. I'd gladly swap my seat for one of those.

I sing like a ****. Every game. Whether we win or lose.

But it appears some of the new guard have a different attitude.

I think we need to make the Lane a lot more hostile, not just a nice place to visit.

Hopefully I fall under the bladdered rather than the nob distinction!

I have put a request in to move from East (26) Lower as it is truly a library where I am - I liken it to ex-Shelfers who have grown out of shouting and cheering, instead politely tellling the ref to go away. I am going to try out North Lower so eventually I can get my four year old (member) in when his turn comes up to be offered a ST.

This last two season's home form really has upped the expectancy levels and even when a little Bale trick fails to come off, the groans are audible - preceding boos if the oppo has the audacity to score.

The price of (relative) success and likely to grow in obviousness the more we are lauded as the most attractive team to watch in the premiership, and don't deliver on the day.

When I were a lad and had a ST, from teen yrs to early 20's, having a nice sing song was the only form of entertainment available at games. Unless you find whichever stiff we had in goal picking the ball out of the net regularly entertaining.

Not having the drummer has made a difference
Playing good football for a long period of time now has made a difference
Expecting to win has made a difference

We were absolute shite and had nothing to sing about and as the Barry Manilow song went we felt sad when your sad
Then we were on the up and up from when fun time frankie came along
We may think that we've peaked after some amazing games and European ties

All has an effect

First off I'm not a ST holder and only attend 3-5 games at the Lane every year since I live in Norway, so I don't really experience the atmosphere of all the games like many of you probably do. I watch all the games obviously, but even on the telly it's obvious the atmosphere isn't what it used to be. However I don't think this is a phenomenon that only occurs at WHL, and I still feel we have a better atmosphere than many of the other clubs we like to compare ourselves to.

I usually just buy tickets wherever I can find a seat, but I'll generally find myself in one of these library zones. Sometimes there are a few people around me (myself included) that join in on the singing, but for the most part we sit in silence, only making noise if we score or concede. When the singing starts in the other parts of the Lane and I join in, I'm often one of just 10-15 in my block that does, and like you say it doesn't take long before I feel like a complete knob because everyone else sitting around me is enjoying the silence.

Basically we were shit, and then started to come good, with that the crowd grew in confidence and we had a manage in Jol we all loved and sang our hearts out for, Seville was a prime example, those few seasons were amazing but it has gone a little flat past couple of years. Maybe we do expect to much?

I remember back in the 80s when I had a ST on the shelf. It was a real mix of atmospheres. Some big games, particularly mid week European matches were amazing. However often there was not that great a noise continuously during a game. away matches were where the atmosphere was. We would always out sing the home fans whether win, lose or draw. Also I don't think terracing is to blame. We always used to sit at away games when we could and I used to think more noise was made from the seated fans than those standing.
