I disagree. Liverpool have lost their top 4 place and their elite status from bad management and economics.

Bad management
They should have expanded the stadium along time ago
They overspent on wages/transfers trying to keep up with Man Utd

Economics
Provincial town
local economy is weak giving limited corporate income and sponsorship
Poor local fanbase, low ticket prices

I see no reason why we cant overtake them. If we get our stadium, we will have the economic factors like rich fanbase, high ticket prices, corporate marketability and a desirable location for players to live.

Please.

Liverpool are fucking Liverpool ffs. 18 league titles, 5 european cups, 7 fa cups, 7 league cups, 3 uefa cups. They are still the 2nd biggest cub in England by some distance imo.

We would have to be bought by a zillionaire, who would then build us a 75k stadium and start winning the major trophies every year to even be considered as big as Liverpool. Then there's the other matter that Arsenal and Chelsea have already over taken us.

Downing is a decent player and is at his peak, but Bale is younger and already looking to be world class.

They may be the 2nd most popular, but their problem is they cant turn interest into income

I suspect its a case of him once being shit but now much improved a bit like our view of BAE. I don't agree though I think Lucas is decent at best and Benny is great

Fucking funny read that liverpool forum especially enjoyed browsing through the match thread v Spurs its comedy gold!

I don't even think that's up for debate lol.

Lucas is decent. Benny is great. I'm a fan of Spurs but I watch football. Not just my team (unlike Pool fans). I'm pretty sure anyone who actually follows football objectively agrees with that.

As for Liverpool, I think only 3 of their players would get into our first choice team (Gerrard, Suarez, and Reina). You might go with Johnson over Walker/Corluka but that's debatable and I think Walker will be better soon anyway.

It should be obvious that most of their players wouldn't get into our team, if they could they wouldn't have just been thrashed at WHL. The only reason they'll be in the race for 4th is because "King Kenny" is good at getting them to beat midtable and relegation teams.

I think it was £15m.

Downing's a pretty good player, underestimated by many on here. He'd have been a useful signing for us 4-5 years ago.

Liverpool signed him this year.

Downing is crap. He can't beat a man and has to cross from too far back not ideal for a striker. He has no pace, is good at interchanging now he is allowed to but showed against us that defensively he is weak like Charlie Adams. For me this is Liverpool's achilles heel, good going forward but poor defensively. They payed twice what he is worth, mind you they did that for Carroll and Henderson who too!

I've seen him run down Sagna and dispossess him. That's quick enough. You appear to be confusing him with Bentley.

Liverpool have a far greater income than us, I have the figures somewhere, Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City make us look second division.

Unfortunately for a business you cant walk home with your income, you walk home with your net profit.

So what is Ut'd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and City's net profit ?

I understand you position but net profit is meaning less in football as the profit really should always be reinvested in the club unless the club is holding back money to carry out infrastructure work.

I think everyone is mistaking income from footballing activities from other income from investments and advertising

Liverpool generate roughly the same amount of income from football as we do it John Henry puts in say 150 million for player purchases this ends up in the books as an intangible asset (I think). That 150 million can be a loan or increased equity or a gift (probably not). Enic has not had to put any money into spurs for years, but they do raise captial from time to time and pay themselves handsomely with great interest rates.

Shitty are floating the rules
Manure is hocked up to the eyeballs
Scum are in a property slump
Chavs are a play thing

We are the only honest club in the group

We are not talking about reinvestment, we are talking about income. By saying that we look 2nd division compared to others may be fine at the top end, but when it comes to gross and net profits in particular that is the money you have as profit.

If you do want to talk about investing, you dont reinvest your income that would be silly, you havent even paid tax on it yet hehe.

Income is money generated (sales etc), gross is profit before tax etc and net profit is what you have in your hand at the end of the day.

No youre missing the point.

Say if we make 100m and show a net profit of 20m and Liverpool make 200m with a net profit of 10m. That does not mean that we are a better club.

Provided Liverpool were managed right, say 50% wages to turnover...

They would have a wage budget of 100m a season whereas ours would be 50m.

Income or revenue is the main driver for football success. Pretty obvious really.

Last year we made roughly about the same turnover as Liverpool (remember the only results we have seen are from previous years mostly when Liverpool had CL and we didn't). They got a good deal with Standard Chartered, and make a little bit more from merchandising and match day revenue, but at the moment we are not that far behind.

How much do they make on a match day to us?how many does anfield hold? Id imagine our ticket prices are much more

Allegedly around £44m (remember this was including CL, so will be less for last season). Ours was I believe £27m (again not including CL).

Anfield capacity 45,362.

Anfield's capacity is about 9000 more than WHL - but don't forget that WHL has a very high proportion of executive boxes.

We'll find out a lot more when last years financial records are produced (is it this month or December for us? Ihave no idea about Liverpools but would guess roughly the same).
