Are you serious?? He's the 3rd or 4th best LB playing in England right now!

I wouldn't go that far. Good player and probably best left back we have had in ages! But better lbs in the league.

Speaking of which, saw a poll today set up by L'Equipe ... circa 47000 of the French public thought the gesture non-racist/ non-anti Semitic vs circa 6000 who thought it was. For what that's worth

The photos of people making the gesture outside concentration camps must be coincidental. As is the French government's desire to jail the "funny man" who is the gesture's leading light.

Serious question, have you watched him play over the last 2 seasons with us and QPR? He certainly wasn't that good for us last year and he hasn't been great for QPR either, which, if he was a top 4 LB, he would be a star playing for a team in the Championship...

Interesting that Ade was immediately brought back into the fold. I honestly thought that Benny would be back about 5 minutes after the window opened. That he isn't and the club seem to be making absolutely zero moves in that direction might tell us something. AVB wasn't completely wrong on that front maybe.

I have a suspicion that the Dear Leader may have found Benny's tweets less amusing than many on here, and there was definitely ITK last summer saying that there were real doubts that he'd pass a medical. Last season he certainly looked as if the injuries had caught up with him.

I'd still prefer him to Rose and Naughton, though. Although to be fair, Wee Jimmy Krankie might be a step up from those two.

Hey, I'm not judging one way or the other. I don't know. I'm just quoting a large poll of educated French people, it being French culture & all. Like I say ... Take what you want from it

Yip. Like I say ... 3/4/5 of them probably. We don't have any of those.

Baines
Kolarov
Clichy
Enrique

Are all definitely better than BAE. I'd go as far as to argue I'd much rather have the follow three in my team as well.

Gibbs
Davies
Shaw

Also I'm sure you'd find many arguing that;

Evra
Cole

Despite their age showing, are better left backs, I wouldn't argue that cause though.

Outrageous claims by you!
Ok, for ease of argument I give you all 9 of those. Including the 2 you're not sure on yourself.

None of those you mention turn out in lilywhite of a weekend.

The claim I was refuting was that Benny is championship material. Which he is very clearly not given the above. & even if he were ... What does that make the options we ourselves have in our squad?

I was simply replying to the information, mate, not to you personally. I'll look into it.

Although, did you add "educated" or was the poll sample group somehow controlled?

Er I'd hardly call football fans 'educated' as a demographic...

Or the 'quenelle' 'French' culture - it's not exactly a national tradition. Le Pen is godfather to this guy's child for fucks sake, how is this even a debate. That poll just seems to suggest to me that people are quite relaxed about a bit of Jew-hating in France.

Oh I just based the 'educated' assumption on it being readers of L'Equipe which is a pretty intelligent publication is all.

Yeah you make a good point there

So @Kentuckyid - rather than press a button if you disagree give me some names of better LB's plying their trade in England right now. How many you got?
1. Rose
2. Baines
3. Cole
4. Kolorav
5. Clichy
6. Santon
7. Gibbs
8. Shaw
There are 8 that I think are better than Benny.

Indeed. There have also been ITK whispers that his personality might be affable enough but he's not exactly the best professional wrt attitude. Certainly, the tweets about AVB etc were hardly hanging offences. Might point to earlier rumours though and weren't exactly tactful or even mature.

We only get about 0.5% of the info we'd need to make a judgement anyway so reading between the lines is all we have. Maybe he's just crocked and stepped on some toes. We're not going to get a big fee for him whatever and the potential downsides of having him in the squad might outweigh the upsides. Simple as that.

We'll be getting a new LB soon enough anyway.

Disagree on Rose (most pertinently), Santon & Gibbs outright ... Could argue against Cole he's a bit over the hill.

Still ... Given that list he still doesnt deserve being labelled as only good for the championship which was my bone of contention

I think most fans have respect for Benny, and he was, and could be still, a great LB. However, as they say in the financial investment world, past performance is no guide to the future. We know Benny is a laid back guy. He is 30 in March. He would appear to be available if another EPL team wanted him, but from what I have seen and read of him at QPR, he hasn't set the place alight. To be honest, he wouldn't give a monkeys what we are talking about on here. His interest in football is minimal (according to him). And for me that is the key to it all. Is he motivated? Is he bothered? IMO he will only be back in the EPL if he changes his attitude and makes it an important priority in his life, but I don't see it personally.

I do think he's better than the championship but honestly I think the club should move on from him if Rose or Fryers are going to be the left back of the future. Benny is not a good example for these players to look up it and I think other than the falling out with AVB this maybe a factor to why he isn't recalled this month.
