He was prioritising the CL game in midweek. At some point he has to rest players. People in this very thread have been calling for 'rotation' for a while now. If they have any sense, they'll stop that now (they don't, so they won't) because we have at least four players that we need to improve on and definitely two or three within the next two transfer windows. We simply haven't got that kind of squad yet. I'm willing to give a few of them a chance on the assumption that being surrounded by much better players will improve their performances too.

Today told us nothing we didn't already know, the squad needs a lot of work doing to it. We know this and it'd be nice if some of the people around here started to acknowledge it and then translate that into a bit of balance instead of what we saw today with comments such as excrement, ****s and spastics (I kid you not). That's what passes for support these days.
im getting tired of it and starting to think we get what we deserve as a club.

We want change all the time and don't understand why we can't become a stable competitive team on the pitch

Emphasises how miraculous our last January transfer window was.

The pair got us CL...and now without either of them, we fall apart.

You do this regularly A&C . You quote stupid things said in the heat of the match (which we all do) from the match
and suggest its a widespread thing that's occurring regularly outside the match which I don't believe it is.

They made a massive difference to how we played.
Stands to reason without them it all falls apart again.
Their ball control is so much better than anything else we have.

Yeah, that's what I did, I suggested it occurs regularly outside the match thread ?

Fuck my life

Oh and they aren't stupid things, some of them are fucking disgusting or at very VERY best over the top and out of order. 'Heat of the match' has got fuck all to do with that, that's not a license to come out with what you want.

Sorry - but some of the vitriol that is spewed in the match threads, and in many of the player threads, is way over the top - even accounting for "heat of the moment" posts.

I get frustration - I think we all do - but, the anger that comes out by some is not healthy, nor supporting the team.

Today Bournemouth had nothing, it was all about us. Change of players had a detrimental impact on our shape and balance. Once we sorted ourselves out-we controlled the match 100%. I do feel we are improving with each challenge- Wed CL next big one.

I'm not sure that's the case, entirely. When we played good football under poch but came up short, we all wanted to make that next step. It's human nature, we're never satisfied for long before we want more. But only a few teams can win each season snd it tends to be the same teams. Therefore, it is inevitable that a point comes where we aren't succeeding, become disgruntled and want change. That's why management isn't a long term job anymore. If we had won the champions league final for example, it would have been the greatest achievement in our history, nobody could ever take that away from us. But how would we have felt if in the following season we failed to make the top 4? Would having won it be enough to take away that disappointment? Or would we have felt it even more? Its all so relative!

But I think that above that is something else, a bit less easy to nail down. It's how much you identify with your team, how happy your team makes you. At Spurs, we have a certain expectation, perhaps because we don't win trophies as much, we expect to watch a certain type of player play a certain brand of football. Even if we aren't doing well overall, we want players that get us off of our seats and set our hearts racing. It's the one thing we have to cheer about. So as a fanbase I think its important to recognise and accept that.

Do we want to win something or be entertained? Under Conte, just like Jose, we have to be prepared to accept that if we win at the end of the season, that is our high, rather than what happens in between the first ball kicked and the last. As a fanbase, can we live with that? I honestly don't think that we can because it is unlikely that we will win something often enough!

Put simply, I think that we would be happier in 5th-7th playing good, aggressive and entertaining football with the hope of challenging for the top 4 and a cup, than we would be playing pragmatic football and sitting in the top 4.

?

FIrst, we would not be challenging for a Cup if we were in the 5th-7th range...

Second, nobody would be happy going back to Europa, or Europa Conference league, or out of Europe all together (well maybe the people that supported Brexit).

Being a mid-table squad, while paying the highest ticket prices, in the newest stadium would draw the wrath of "fans" on a daily basis.

Teams that are happy in that range, are teams, and supporters, with low expectations.

I want to win. Had many years of wonderful football and little to sing about.

I agree, you want to enjoy it and be entertained. But I loved the back end of last season. Inter fans loved their championship winning season so did Chelsea under Conte. It was relentless.

I loved the Poch era but even the year we got CL final was very unbalanced football. We were sluggish in the group stages. domimated by City and Ajax. Our fighting spirit got us through.

League performances and form was mostly between solid to shocking too.

Id even argue that the first 18 months under Poch were quite inconsistent and whilst there were green shoots, we also had some poor games. Poch didn't really start seasons well.

Let's be patient and see if Conte can bring us some enjoyment later this season and next.

I'm confident we will have an enjoyable period under him. Whilst it won't be all guns blazing, I do think we'll see performances like versus City im which we looked dangerous every time we attacked and very solid.

Or the Newcastle, Leeds, Everton, Norwich and Arsenal games where we had such high intensity and just rolled them over.

I do feel all that’s happening is good character building for the team- up against it but still up with the front runners.

We need to step back from the crap and see the prospect ahead. Once players are back from injury and post WC, we will fly, I’m sure. Tues is massive, to state an obvious-not lose is within our means. COYS

The thing is, it’s exactly the sort of shit that’s being said in the stadium around me, as I’ve said in another thread. Constructive criticism is fine because we don’t have to like what we see but using language like that about any of our players, never mind to another human being, is unacceptable.

I literally have no idea what you are trying to say here?

If you're in 5th-7th you wouldn't be challenging for a cup? You can challenge for a cup regardless of your league position.

Realistic expectations I think.
