How no Premier league team took a punt on Hector Herrera is fucking mind boggling. Borderline incompetent.

Has there been an occasion the ref has gone to check screen and not given pen? Because that's my issue. Seems as though once ref goes over he feels he has to give it because effectively it means the other refs on panel think it's a pen.

I dont think its a poor system, i think its the issue of inconsistency in its usage thats causing the problem. eg Sons incident yesterday should have been checked and it would have been deemed a penalty. Thats annoying.

The answer potentially should be in using the VAR for matter of fact type incidents eg offsides

I mean there is a VAR decision just now for Porto,... that wouldnt have happened without VAR
TBH I don 't see how you can say you don't think its a poor system and then list incidents that the system is failing on. I think any inconsistency is a failure in the system surely?

When I said it should be used for 'did the ball cross the line', that's a matter of fact decision, we agree there.

Pretty sure the refs ignored VAR at the world cup a few times

It’s possible that he’s been deemed too ugly for the PL. No club would want to risk damaging their brand by literally signing Quasimodo.

Champions League is the greatest club tournament ever and there will ever be, such a special tournament from the anthem to the balls to the knockout games everything about it is so special

So grateful my team isn’t in the Europa League

So you're saying he shouldn't even try to get in line with the ball and get in front of the shot!? There would be a lot of defenders facing the wrath of angry managers (let alone fans) and losing their jobs if that happened.

I wouldn't, because I don't believe that met the criteria for what I consider a penalty. Spurs or not that wouldn't change. Go back a few weeks for an example of that, I was getting hammered and very much in the minority for saying I thought the booking/no pen against Son for diving was fair enough.

How can you interpret what I said like that? You can actively try and block a shot with pretty much any other body part than your arms is my view of it.

What is it you don't understand about that cornpattbuck? If you actively try to block a shot and you use your arms to stop the ball then that is a foul in my view. If he had actively tried to avoid the ball hitting his arm by tucking it in etc, which he did not, and the ball still had grazed his arm then that is not a foul. Problem is, he had no idea or control of what he was doing. Not rocket science to understand my stance.
