i'm aghast at how eriksen seemingly goes missing in big games.

but granted he had to do a lot of running and covering on the left, what with ivanovic always bombing forwards.

another dilemma is, given the current form players are in, it is difficult to play lamela eriksen and soldado all together, but they have the most chemistry together.

he had to close down the space.
That should really be the job of Bentaleb and Paulinho. Fazio was further forward than Bentaleb at the start of that goal and closer to the ball. And that's far from ideal.

it was a first time ball being played, hence going over fazio.
Exactly, it went over him, so the closing down achieved nothing. Of course balls can go over the top, don't defenders who come forward realise this? Is this actually what managers want? It seems to me to make sense that if your mids aren't closing down, then so be it, but the CB flying out of position isn't going to make a great deal of difference anyway as we saw with Fazio and therefore they should stay back where they have a better chance of defending as a unit together with the other CB, in the position that they know.

even then, it's still a bit of a reach.
Depends what you consider world class. Do you think any of Chelseas midfield players are world class? Fabregas, Willian, Matic, Oscar? And if you do then don't you think Bentaleb wasn't outclassed?

our high pressing game is meant to kill games off in the first half.

southampton never winning from losing position under poch is in a way proof of that.

had we been more clinical and taken our chances in the first 20 mins, the game would be different.

that said, against chelsea and city... and maybe united now, we cannot afford to make individual mistakes. it cost us, it will continue to cost us.

There is always a tendency to over analyse things but in reality our defence has always been shit and no manager despite different philosophy can sort it.
Its something i have given up on even Mourinho would struggle to put right and he is a great manager, it must be in the dna or ten commandments thou shall defend awful.

post match, tim sherwood (i'm not a fan btw) said that we have too many players on similar quality at defence.. his expression said that he thinks they are not good enough

The second we no longer have the ball, Fazio should have been piss bolting back and getting central. But he was hanging around like a bad smell. Don't forget, defenders are there to be in a position where they can provide defence. They should not get in a forward position which compromises their primary role. But he did.
I dont understand you. You are defending Vertonghen who actually lost it than Fazio ? It was a one on one with Remy & Jan lost the plot

Disappointed but fact is we aren't going to go to Chelsea and get a result at the moment, they're a better team who are top of the league and unbeaten. Despite the score line I don't think we played terribly, couple of players were poor when we needed them to shine but hopefully that confidence will increase as the team improves as well.

Scary part is Chelsea didn't even try to defeat us. They were in 2nd gear all game. If they really wanted to attack us,we would have got a embarrassing drubbing.

The same goes for literally every other win they've had this season to be fair.

Positives....Harry Kane continues to impress and troubled top class premiership defenders, Bentaleb (lets remember this lad is still only 20) is by far our most effective defensive midfielder and is improving all the time (think some still attach stigma to him because of Sherwood?) remember he was up against the premierships best midfield last night. I'm sure if he played for another club people would be saying we should get him.

I can't really think what you saw to make you think they were going easy on us.

No way anyone would have called for Ronaldo to be sold after 1 season.Even in his first season, he was turning games on its head. Only problem was then he was a diver

And getting one season under belt is not a condition for judging a player is good or not.
Who wants to sell Lamela? You
No Ronaldo was a show pony, Fergie believed in his talent and the rest is history.
Moving to a new league, most player's take a season to adjust.
Especially the younger ones.
What happens is some fans become impatient and make sweeping statements about them not being good enough or should be sold.
What tends to happen next is they look like fools and there statements get rammed back down there throats.
Cue what's happening here.

I'm ciritisising both of them. Vert mostly, as he was the one who was in a position to defend it but failed, but at least he was in a position to attempt to defend it, whereas Fazio was in no-mans land. Remy would've been a million times better defended with the two of them working as a unit. Obviously.

Don't get me started on the Lord of the Rings. I paid good money to watch the first film and there was not an ending.
I paid for me and 4 others to watch a fucking film with no fucking ending. I did not read the book obviously.
Once again, you prove my point.

Yes, I want to sell Lamela. 100%
But unfortunately, we wont find buyers for the money Levy expects. So, he will end up with us for another 2 years.

What I find amusing is, people like you defending Lamela to the hilt - as if you have followed him his whole carrier from River to Roma (game in game out ) and pretend they know everything about the player.

Mate, its already been 1 year 4 months. Discounting 4 months of injury, his time is up. He better start delivering; Otherwise its you will be the fool.
