Honestly don’t think there’s really any point in moaning about that. Started out looking good but then reverted to business as usual. The only thing I’m seeing is yet again a reason why we need to spend a substantial amount of money on the squad. Until we do this is what we are going to see.
Exactly. How much space is Doherty in? A half recent rwb would be attacking that space and doing something with it

That's not what I'm seeing. First 20 minutes we looked decent and as they've gained more possession we've started to panic again. Then it sets in and it's total keystone cops time. There's a massive confidence problem in this side right now, and a real lack of trust for each other. I don't see a lack of effort or players going through the motions though.
This is what doing me in. The supposed leaders in there are so muted and guilty of not leading at all. Every single of them are hiding, like something is holding them back. Is embarrassing.

You know what, it might be mad, but I'd move Dier to CM and make it a 3 and bring on Davies for Gil and have Lenglet in the middle.

Dier can move the ball a bit better out of his feet and would give us more in midfield.

I thought I heard “Daniel levy, get out of our club” then it changed to “come on you spurs”

why would sky plug in fake noise?

It's totally apparent that bentancur is our most important player. There is just no quality or control in the middle of the park without him... Any combination that doesn't include him gets totally overrun and gives the ball away all the time.

We actually started fairly brightly. It looked like they’d been given very clear instructions to keep the tempo high, press higher up and pass quickly. Then after about 15 minutes the passes started getting loose and of course as always we never win the second balls. From then we just got dominated and did nothing.

Skipp looks like he's not sharp - after 18 months of injury hell, give the lad a break.
Gill looked really effective for the 1st 20-25 mins, starting to settle in.
Kane and Son look a little off, maybe post WC?

Some of you lads are extremely fatalistic, yeah things arent going well. We'd all love a mousa dembele to pop up, or someone to drive through. We're missing quite a bit, Richarlison, Deki, Bentacur, these are massive misses. But this is what we have at the moment, so lets try and get the best out of it and not sit around whinging that kids/post long term injury players are not doing enough.

I still really don't like this system. The wingbacks push up and then too close to son and gil so no room to do anything so goes back!

Needs to be 3 at the back, 2 wing backs and then 3 in cm with one pushing up behind a front 2. That way we cover gaps to create space and not playing on top of eachother!

We started really brightly and then just went into our shells. As soon as Zaha and co started dribbling at our guys they grew in confidence. I'm shocked at how a year out of football has affected Skipp who seemed so much more adept at the defensive side of the game. He was doing well early on linking play and knocking it around with pace, but the moment we let Palace into the game we stopped playing through the midfield.

We stopped trying to work it through the midfield and instead Dier and Lenglet resorted to trying to ping balls down the channels, handing possession back to Palace time and time again. Kane looks incredibly leggy, more so than Son whilst Gil again looks lost out there. He was also bright to begin with, but once the game became a battle he became a weak link. Not that the other forward players have been great.

No idea how to save this team right now. Sarr for Gil feels like the right move as at least we can try to assert some control on the game.

Can you blame him?

Hojbjerg and Skipp is not a strong midfield. Turn to the bench to see why you've got - Sarr?

Son is in dreadful form. Turn to the bench ...........erm?

Gil is weak and lacks impact. Turn to the bench......erm?

Doherty has a lack of quality. Turn to the bench. ......Emerson?

It's pathetic for a supposed top 4 team

Fuck yes I can blame him. Change the formation to suit the players you have during the injury crisis ffs.

I really want Gil to be a success, bit I can't see it happening tbh

He started quite well, showing for the ball and putting himself about with little quality.

I feel Palace soaked us and then pushed higher up the pitch and we started to struggle.

Skipp looks well off it (understandably). Son much the same sorry form.

We have no pace, energy or zip in our play.

At the start of the season I was happy with any 2 of our 4 CMs starting any game. Now only one I want to see is Bentancur

Our front three and midfield four just have too much ground to cover when they try to press as we are sitting too deep.
Palace players all have time to take a touch and get a pass away as our covering players are arriving too late, and are then out of position when they get bypassed. Then it's panic stations as everyone scrambles back trying to get behind the ball and no one is where you would want them, making it all look so chaotic and disorganized. Horrible to watch, we look clueless when trying to close down.
