Good draw against a decent side. No complaints here. It could've been worse..but it weren't.

1st day of the season. Rustiness will be there...we'll be good this season. I'm confident.

Onto the next one...
Yup. Draw away games, win home games =v good points total. Onwards and upwards!

The annoying thing with Eriksen is he has the ability to dominate games. His lack of pace and physicality probably gives off the impression he gives less effort than the others do too ( although at times his effort is questionable )

We could do with a genuine dictator in the middle.

Can't help but feel that if we hadn't gone to the other side of the world for preseason we likely wouldn't have been so rusty.
You do know that most of our starting 11 did not go. I think you should rewind and come again

Think your memory is playing tricks on you old chap. Most people didnt get the fact that he was a tempo setter until his last season before that he was vastly under appreciated. The same senario applies Eriksen

Memory is fine, first season people weren't sold on him, but after that the majority of fans loved him. The same doesn't apply to Erisken, Modric was far more consistent. If he was in this team now rather you would see the big difference in quality between the two.

Could have lost it in the first half, could have won it in the second, draw is a fair result. Seems a few were still on their summer holidays.

Modric was adored for a season or two. His first season was up and down and he was misused. His last season had the 'trying to join Chelsea' cloud hanging over him

And he was still incredible that season.

On the game today, I thought Eriksen was non existent until Jansenn came on.

How massive a difference did he make? Brilliant. Hopefully we will see more of him and Kane as he really gives us a focal point.

Lamela was great as he has been in pre season. And Walker seems to have learned how to cross, finally.

Vertonghen was off the pace so I hope he will improve soon. I dread to think what will happen if Toby gets injured.

Vorm did very well and we are lucky to have such a solid back up. He might not be as strong as Hugo but he'd be first choice in a lot of PL teams.

How many more games is Dembele out for? Wanyama was ok but he and Dier together is a no go.

Good start to the season with a point. Looking at Everton I don't think they will lose many at home this season.

I'm still pretty annoyed that shoulder-to-shoulder challenge between Kane and Funes-Mori was given against us. Kane just bossed him completely; he can't help it he's going to win a 50/50 against a weaker player. I'd imagine that would have been a goal as Kane was looking to square it to an unmarked Alli. It's the little things.

Maybe he could have gone with a Mason or Winks, but I don't think it would have made loads of difference. Everton's shape was designed to negate our strengths, and we didn't have any answers to it first half. We need to be able to think on our feet more during matches.
So very correct. 2 forwards pressing stopping CB interplay and long diagonal ball; Barkley in the hole blocking CM picking ball up from CB; and a back 7 clogging the halfspaces (Koeman really does fear Eriksen and plans him out of the game).

Did you notice Toby and Jan driving with the ball in the 2nd half to combat their tactics? It directly lead to our goal. Nice adjustment by Poch at half but these professionals (3rd year in system) should be able to recognize, adjust, and implement on their own during play.

Ok with a point after a really piss poor first half. Second half a lot better and apart from a couple of top class saves we would have all three points. On a negative, our bench looked weak. We definitely need to be adding more attacking quality to our squad. COYS

It's not just about the starting 11 though. It's about the squad preparing TOGETHER as a team for the season ahead.

Sure the euros didn't help, but sending half the team to Australia has to be a hindrance. Poch himself has said he'd rather have pre season nearer to home.
