modric will not play in the defensive mid role i would just like to bring to your attention the players we have been strongly linked with, capel, bently...attacking players, fabregas i would class as a defensive midfielder with a licence to roam and i think modric will be deployed in this way.

going back to the players we have been linked with modric was out of the blue and i hope we get a class dm in under the radar.

as it stands he will be in the carrick role

.........................modric...............................

.............zokora......................jenas............

bently.............................................dos santos

unless of course we play zoko in the dm push modirc in his place, or even play a four man midifeld, or even, put modric on the left, theres millions (well 5 anyway) options for him, and i really doubt defensive midifield will be one of them

i should have put that this is how i would play his, his performances in the euros were immense in the dm slot making it in too the team of the tournement, with jj zoko luka all interchanging

???? Fabregas Is not a DM in a million years. Does that mean Arsenal had two defencive midielders (Flammini and Fabregas!!) But if you think HE is a DM then Modric is too. dispite the fact that Modric dosent hold the ball but insted is quick quick quick and always playes a forward pass!!

With Hudd signing a 5 year contract, i would think he is somewhere in Ramos's plan as well.

Depends on what formation we play though, a midfeild 3 would work realy well

Hudd/Zokora
Jenas ....................Modric

That may suit Hutton and especially Bale playing as wing backs.

We haven't signed either of those players yet, so drawing conclusions about how the arrival of those players will affect where Modric plays is, to put it politely, slightly premature.

Regardless of who we go on to sign, I feel that when you pay £16 million for a player, you want to put him in a position that plays to his strengths. In fact, when you spend £16 million on a player, it's more likely that his presence will dictate the positions that those around him will play in (we should be asking how Huddlestone, Jenas and potentially Bentley and Capel fit into a midfield with Modric in it, not the other way around). From what I saw of Modric in Austria and Switzerland, I would say his strengths are his vision and ability to play short creative passses in attacking positions, and his movement off the ball. Basically, I think he is most effective in the opposition half.

So I don't think holding midfield is the right position for him. But hey, we're all just guessing really.

he will play in the middle... But no he will not play as a defensive midfielder you only say that because the only time you have seen him is at the Euro's where they have to accomodate three playmakers in Modric, Kranjcar and Rakitic.

Can't see Modric playing DM. If Keane does go I really like the look of :-

------------Huddlestone-----------

--------Jenas---------Modric------

Lennon/Bentley---------Dos Santos

-------------Berbatov-------------

so just because he can play am doesnt mean he will for us, as i said look at our targets, all attacking players....dos santos, bentley, capel, im sure modric could be our creative spark from deeper.

for all those 442 lovers

bentley/lennon....jenas.....modric.....capel/dos santos

jj an lm can get stuck in also interchanging the holding role, they both have a great engine.......as for playing away too manure/chelscum and teams like that i would play

.....................gomes................

hutton........king.......woodgate.........bale

......................zokora.........................

..........jenas.............modric...............

lennon...............................dos santos

.................berbatov

you see the way i swapped modric for zoko there...does that make you lot happy

this would be perfect to soak up pressure and hit them hard on the break, maybe hudd instead of zoko to pick out a 60 yard pass to the front 3

Its an interesting point, we are getting linked with lots of attacking players. I can see Jenas playing as the more defensively minded midfielder for a lot of games next season, if we dont get a new player in, as he has the ability to play there (pace, strength, good covering, can tackle well) and would provide some Prem experience to help Modric et al settle in.

Robbie staying with us will dictate where we are going this decade...and beyond. Should he go...then we will have illustrated our 'small' minded ambition....Should he stay...we will 'battle' and 'bruise' our way to a Top 4 position (if only it were that easy!).
JJ, is average (in his recent persona......) but he might fit the bill as a DM. I would much prefer a dedicated DM with a DM track record in CL or the equivalent....Perhaps JJ can prove his worth but....maybe not? COYS!

Yeah but half the players at the tournament made it into that, it was more of a squad than a team! In fact it had a lot more players than Turkey!

yeah i spose you have a point ss57, he did join halfway in the season and was left with a very 442 orintated squad tho, he tried weith a 433 against newcastle and got spankede but he has got time too adapt his ideas in pre season, its not out of this world that we will play the 4231 and we look alot more sturdy on paper with it
