Show me any evidence whatsoever that we currently would be able to pay Bale the wages he would demand. Show me anything at all. I honestly feel kinda crappy now saying this as I feel like I'm hurting your feelings or something and believe me I don't want to do that but mate we simply cannot afford to pay him what he would want and even if we could can you imagine the impact it would have on our other players re: wage expectations. We have to be realistic here.

Haha, it's ok dude, you're not hurting my feelings, I just feel quite passionately about it I guess. As I mentioned, in many ways it's not even about wanting Gareth Bale back specifically. Obviously we'd all love it to happen, I guess I've just used it to make a wider point.

I also can't show you any evidence that we can pay his wages but what I read recently is that often a club can pay a basic wage and then add in bonuses to bring it up to a higher level. Equally though, I really don't think any of our players would grumble if Bale came in and became top earner. Eventually we will need to raise our wage budget. The understanding today is that the top is 100k per week. At some stage that needs to go up to 150k, 175k, 200k etc. That will likely happen in line with the new stadium but for the sake of adding an elite level, world class player with history at our club.....I think we could and would do it now as a one-off.

They weren't expecting Real to blow them out of the water?

Lol, good one Cath.

United were willing to pay more. Bale wanted Madrid simple as that.

Can confirm this is true united have wanted him for ages, Bale believe it or not, actually has always wanted to play for Madrid it's why he's trying so hard to make it work out there at the moment.

Only thing I know is Bale wants his children to speak Welsh, but I assume even living in Madrid he could afford a welsh speaking tutor our there for Alba anyways.

He will be back one day on these shores but I can not see it being this season, although if he does come back I can see him in a united shirt

This whole thread is a bi polar pile of shit. It should be closed and locked. Bale isn't ever coming back here, unless he's 35 and on his last legs, looking for a final big payday, à la Rooney at Everton. I'm personally going to throw up if I ever see him put on a United kit. I hope he stays at Madrid. Half the people in this thread are pining for him like some long lost girlfriend they just can't get over. It's pathetic. Fuck that gimpy Welsh bastard. Forget about him.

Bale is on about £300k per week - he is only 28 so he would expect his next move to be at least on the same money. Not many teams in the world can afford to pay that.

I'm not saying we will never resign Bale - that could be possible. I'm saying that from all the information we know about the club - the wage structure, the need to be careful financially because of the stadium build, etc. in my honest opinion there is 0 chance of us being able to sign Bale this window. Feel free to debate it if you want but give me some evidence that I am wrong. I also would like to point out that I did not call anybody stupid.
Good for you. And I'd like to point out that I didn't quote you. I didn't have you personally in mind at all when posting.

My thesis is; we have never seen what Levy can or cannot do/be open to when it comes to signing a true super-star. Yeah, he might fudge about a little too much when it comes to more average joe footballers, but we have no idea about how he could or could not behave if it was about a deal bringing a crazy big star back to the club. So there is no point in being too categorical about what is possible or not possible. If Bale in fact would be open to rejoining Spurs, so the willingness from the player was there, neither you nor I know what Levy would be capable of.

Who said we're struggling? That's not my understanding of it at all, quite the opposite in fact. We know EXACTLY what we're doing on that front.

Levy might be a piece of work but he's not going to overpay for a player that has 1 year left on his contract and whose current club have stated that he will be sold. They have no leverage whatsoever. So we sit, we wait and we get the best possible deal. It's good business. It may not be the best for the squad for starting the season but he's injured anyway.
My point was we don't have the resources to close out deals of lesser value quickly - cannot see how that approach means we'll sneak a march on others for Bale. Unless there is some crazy buy-back options, that we don't know about. Even then - why would he come:

You could well be right. I don't know how much he's on, it's not really important to me at this point as I feel I've flogged my point to death and will let it rest now.

I still feel like something could be worked out, we'll see what happens. Other fans can call me optimistic if they like, I'm happy with that. I'd rather be optimistic and positive than be like a lot of our fans are being at the moment - and thats not a dig at you btw.

We have first refusal, that's all I know.

Lets put it this way, if we sign Bale by the end of this window I will personally fly over to England and kiss each of you deeply on the lips because I'll be so damned happy.

Just to indulge in this, it would be quite the PR coup to sign him next summer, and tie in this whole homecoming narrative, with the new stadium.

You know things are really slow round here when people start talking about Gareth Bale coming back.

Only way we could sign Bale I realistically think

Would be to ask his friend and spurs fan sam warburton to kidnap him.

The other downside is Bale's actually good mates with Jack Whitehall now the big gooner comedian hope he does not sing sweet songs about arsenal.

If he doesn't start in the final today there is going to be a media shit storm. Can guarantee a picture of him hugging Jose both with big smiles on their face.

Couldn't stand Whitehall before and now I hear he's a goon hate him more. It seems the goons have replaced the handbag as the must have celebrity accessory.
