Tottenham have been rebuffed in a bid to lure Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid.

Intermediaries acting on the club's behalf sounded out the Argentina striker, 24, about a switch to London but he has decided he wants to stay in Madrid.

Higuain, who has also been targeted by Chelsea and Manchester City, struggled to earn a starting place in Madrid last season but has opted to fight for his place.

Meanwhile, Tottenham scouts ran the rule over Serbia and Spartak Zlatibor Voda goalkeeper Branimir Aleksic, 21, during Tuesday's friendly against Sweden.

Err Mourinho said Higuain will not leave Real as he wants him to stay, even when he said his goodbyes he still said as long as he's there he wants him to stay

Well I am certainly upset with that Argie Frog (or is it Froggy Argie?) for not responding positively to our overtures that the Daily Mail made up. Perhaps the Daily Mail could make up a link to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. At least then when the manufactured rumor falls through, I can think to myself "but he could be a bad seed for team morale"

If true, I imagine the phone call was 2 long seconds at best.

Good news if true; shows we're going for that level of player.

or it shows another example of bidding £38m for aguero but with no intention of signing him. We've no chance of signing anyone like Higuain .... he's on a reported £70k per week which would need to be £120-150k if he came here due to the 50% tax.

If you discount the facts that he'll want huge wages, is one of the top strikers in the world, all the top teams in the world will be after him and he will definitely want champion's league football then there is quite a good chance we'll sign him.

If modric is a waiting to exit, then a swap with GH would be wonderful. The type of striker that would take us to another level. He is second choice to Benzema. But we all know this comes from a piss poor, paper selling establishment.

It shows me we are going for unrealistic targets and shopping above our station.

We don't pay the wages Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal or Man Utd do so why bother even showing an interest.

Adebayor wants to play for us and last season showed he is a good fit in our side but we cannot afford his wages either

He's a fantastic striker and would be a perfect move

The problem is if he left Madrid (which he has no Real reason to o_O ) he could go to some of the biggest clubs in the world ahead of us and his wage is already probably way in excess of our current restrictions/structure

In short, this is just a no go and a day dream

Juve desperately want him but Jose put his foot down and said no.

On to the next (realistic) target.
