He is not going to be the price quoted. I'd be suprised if we paid more than £10m for him.

Prices are only ridiculous when people are prepared to pay them. We got toby for not much more than we paid for richards. Just because other teams are willing to spunk stupid amounts doesn't mean we should.

I agree and you can add wages to that too. Other premier league teams might be willing to do it but we shouldn't unless it's for a special player.

We still have to be fairly competitive with wages. But make that performance based.

Been impressed with him everytime I've seen him play.

It's his power, composure, passing and impressive ability on the ball that made him catch the eye. And he isn't slow. His forays forward are Vertonghen-esque. And whilst his stronger foot is his right, he has looked more than adept playing on the left hand side of the CB 2/3.

Im not saying he'll become the new King or Alderweireld, but he has shown enough IMO to suggest that he is worth a shot at the £15m mark (considering the year left on his contract). Ajax's young defender De Ligt would be my pick for this position, but Maguire could be a very astute signing if the former proves to be unattainable

Maguire has played LCB for Hull a lot I think.
Yes he has but plays across all 3 for them but he still ain't good enough. Sorry but I can't stand the praise he gets. He will get found out at a bigger club. Made countless mistakes costing goals. I have no clue what anyone sees in him except his ability when he takes on someone. Someone said vertonghen esque. No where near man. He is like sissoko in that regard he can do it against crap opposition

Yeah I thought the Ajax kid looked like a real prospect but I'd look to do a loan back for 1/2 years.

Do him, Maguire, and then a striker who can do more than Janssen, especially in the air. I'm on thecWalker peters bus now too after seeing some of the Korea match the other day, he's got pace and confidence to burn, could be fun

No one is paying £22m for a championship defender, I don't care how crazy the market is.

Would prefer Keane.

Surprise surprise, the hipsters are out. Almost the exact same thread as Toby and Wanyama. If Poch wants him, he'll turn him into an England international and you'll all forget you couldn't get past his name

Maguire is awful. Some claim that he's quick. Quicker than Dawson maybe but jesus we want to compete for the PL and CL. Why would we resort to a CB that got relegated this season?? I would be absolutely fuming if we sold Wimmer and replaced him with Maguire.

Yeah let's got shot of Trippier he got relegated too

If we're selling Wimmer then getting Maguire in as a replacement makes a lot of sense.

I would like to see 2 Center backs as backup in the squad. We can always

I would prefer Keane too... But he will want first team football. And would easily cost double what Maguire will cost.

I think £22M is slightly high... Most likely it will end up being around 15M. Maybe 8M + performance bonus and maybe a cut of his next transfer fee and maybe a loan of a youngster? Transfer deals are pretty complex these days.

Remember that this transfer window we might be seeing massively inflated pricing for players moving between English clubs due to the new TV deal money.

I thought Keane only had 1 year left on his contract? Maybe I am getting them confused.

It's more that the clubs with money to burn are after him... Man Utd and Liverpool. Both are rumoured to be willing to pay top dollar for him and if u believe the rumours it's 50Mil + atleast 120k per week.

We can't match that. The most we can do is 50% of that figure.

I am a big fan of him. Would really love to see him play for us. But the way the transfer market is going. That ain't gonna happen.

Oh and btw... Which ever club misses out on him will most likely go for Van Dijk, for the same amount of money. If u believe rumours.

To be fair... It's all still rumours. Rumours that Utd had a 30M bid for Keane rejected, with burnley wanting more and reusing to sell (remembered reading somewhere the owners or something said premiership survival is more important and worth £150 so he is fine losing Keane for free next season) rumours that Liverpool are willing to meet the asking price... Rumours that Utd are desperate to land him, rumours that Liverpool lining up Van Dijk should they miss out on Keane.

But we are getting off topic. Let's discuss Maguire.

we are concerned about the inflated price instead of the player's ability

Crazy money. There must be some defenders in championship/league 1 who are only a year or so behind in development to these 2 if we are determined to buy English.

We don't exist in a vacuum. Everton, for instance, are now rich and their current centre backs are Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka. They're definitely in the market, and will be paying whatever it takes. And they know that players that are possibly good enough to be in our squad, are definitely good enough for them, So even clubs like that will be jacking up the prices for us.

Because, realistically, we're more likely to buy potential than throwing our hat into the ring with Chelsea, Man City and United and their targets.
