Has qualifying for the CL "really" made any difference...?

Tbh I don't think many of us expect to get CL footy again next year, unless the Scum, Liverpool and City have another bad season.

I do. I also expect the Goons to struggle to stay in CL places next season; I also expect Liverpool to have a season of stabalising next year; I also expect Citeh to get off to a bad start but then challenge the Goons for the final CL place.

There's aiming high and actually being high. You sir, are the latter.

For the first time ever I am prepared to put money on us winning the league next year...now. Obviously, the odds are so high as it really is a bit of a long-shot, but...

I expect us to come out of the transfer dealings stronger relatively stronger than any of our rivals, except Citeh, who will struggle at the start of the season, due to taking time to gel (and getting off to a bad start at the Lane); I think we have a bit of a rogue element in that we have a young, exciting and improving squad who will have been together for another year, and with another year of stability under Aitch (if he doesn't go down the clinkEek) - how much that improvement will be, and how much it will improve performance over the year is anyones guess; I feel providing the first two elements are fulfilled, we actually have a pretty easy start to the season - and we all saw the benefit of 'getting out of the blocks quickly' last season, didn't we.

Take my word for it, if I am right, and we win 4 or 5 games on the trot at the start of the season you certainly won't get the generous odds the bookies are giving right now...and how many of you will feel sick as the proverbial pig that you didn't slip a quick lady on it in the year when we actually manage to pull it orf:shrug:

So, what am I on?

I agree with this lad... I reckon we'll be relatively strong next season. Citeh will have another transitional season. I reckon their season depends on how well silva does. What they lacked last season was a creative force and if silva can fill that void I reckon they'll do reasonably well. Liverpool.. can't see them improving dramatically... the scum will be in the shot too of they have to sell fabregas.

I am glad someone else has said it first, but I have been thinking ever since the end of the season that contending for the title is a possibility.

The squad will have continuity, and hopefully one or two quality additions - ideally a striker who could put away the Stokes and Wolves of this world at the Lane - so why can't see aim to battle it out with the top guns?

I'm sorry to blow all of your bubbles but winning the league just isn't gonna happen next season. 1 good season and you think we have a shot winning the whole thing? We just scraped 4th and that came off the back of an amazing season, so just think about how much better we will need to be this coming season if we are to come even close to winning it. IMHO Chelsea and Man Utd are head and shoulders above everyone else atm, and considering City will spending big this summer you have to consider them into the mix as well.

On paper our team is very good and solid across most of, if not all areas, both in strength and depth, and it is easy to get carried away after last season and be hugely optimistic about challenging for the title next season. I would love it if this was to happen but my head tells me that this isn't going to be the case. And I will explain why: Spurs have some sort of inferiority complex when it comes to the big teams, especially away from home. Yes we beat Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool at WHL but we were pretty much rolled over in every game away from home against these teams plus Utd. Until we can eradicate this mentality against superior opposition and start taking points away from home against these teams, we wont even come close to winning the league.

Furthermore, I agree that last season we were extremely consistent and went on many long unbeaten runs which I was amazed at, we still lost to the likes of Wolves and Stoke in games that title contenders would otherwise have won comfortably. It's all well and good saying we will beat these teams if we buy 1 or 2 players, but we still have to go out and do the business, which is something that Utd and Chelsea always seem to do because they are that good.

Hopefully CL football can attract CL caliber players to the club but I think there are some people here who need to keep their feet on the ground until we start showing consistency over many seasons, not just 1.

My dear fellow Spurs fan you seem to fail to notice the inconsistency in your own post. We failed to beat some poor teams, if we had beaten those teams then we wouldn't have just scraped 4th but would have challenged for the title. If we can add players to the squad that allow 'arry to successfully play a formation other than 4-4-2 and reduce reliance on Lennon (1st half of the season) and Bale (2nd half of the season) then we should be able to beat teams that park the bus at WHL. Similarly, we will be able to play 3 in central midfield in a 4-5-1/4-3-3 away at the Sky 4, a formation 'arry has already said is necessary, we were undone by formation not mentality. Add a year's experience to a young squad and you can see us wining games away at everton and villa rather than drawing. So in fact with a relatively small number of squad changes that give the manager formation flexibility and a little bit of added experience, together with a little bit better luck on the injury front (lennon, modric to name but two) we will in fact be very close to the top 2. Finally, I see us going forward whereas Manure are potless with an aging squad and Chelski also have an aging squad and an owner who over the last 3 seasons has lost his need to spend big to keep the Kremlin from bumping him off.

Just have a little faith and be rational.

I don't get all this blind panic that we haven't signed anyone yet.

Only the super rich Man City have made big signings.

Arsenal has signed one recognised player on a free, United only youngsters and Chelsea just Benayoun!

Why can't people just trust Levy and Redknapp know what they're doing, they got us this far!

That's precisely my point. We didn't beat these "poor" teams ...Of course I have faith, and I believe over time we will be challenging for the title on a consistent basis as long as Redknapp remains in charge and we keep our best players. I'm just saying not to expect overnight success. Last season was a platform on which to build on to the next platform: establishing ourselves amongst the best consistently. I'm a realist, not an optimist.

I blame City.

I blame Harry. We can all dream who we would like playing for Spurs
ie Dzeko, M Ozil,M Sissoko,Kjaer,Derdiyok, D Forlan, Arda, to name a few
apart from Forlan, have we been after any of these players. I think why we have been linked with J Cole, M Richards,D Forlan, and the Upsons this window is Harry will only go after players that play or have played in the Prem , otherwise he will be out of his comfort zone.We have more coaches and scouts than Victoria coach station these days i wonder what Bill Nick would think. I myself would be over the moon if we brought somebody like R Lukaku, S Jovetic, M Badelj, Phil Jones, J Lewis, with C Wickham to come in. Anyway Rant Over But i still dream of M Ozil and Dzeko

You don't know what you're talking about in that case, then. Redknapp is known for liking both his 'good old, tried and trusted' Premiership players as you describe, but he is equally well known for taking a punt on players from overseas that nobody except the football anoraks knew anything about beforehand. Kranjcar, Yakubu, Muntari are just 3 names that pop off the top of my head without thinking about it - I'm sure someone who fancies doing the research would be able to provide a far more comprehensive list.

Basically, you're talking rubbish. Or at best, half-rubbish.

don't be darft son. If you actually look at the players Harry has bought over his career, plenty of them have been foreigners, some well-known, some not so well known.

And as for Cole/Richards/Forlan. They don't sound too shabby to me.

He's right, we signed Sandro but that is just too close to his missus' name. His or her arrival has now been delayed. No smoke without fire.

There has been a lack of big signings world wide. Now the World cup draws to a close, there will be masses of them. Still a month to go.

As for city paying 50 million for Yaya and Silva, YOURS. They are worth 30 tops,

Its not even the transfer fees that get me, its that they are paying them both salaries that are as much as Messi and Ronaldo get. That is really going to help squad unity when the rest of the players find out...:duh:

We've not actually qualified for the CL outright yet. This could be a reaason.

Also the other reason, is that there is a World Cup going on, and the transfer window has only been open for 5 days!!

both right on the money for me
