plan B after Vertonghen fail?

Must be

Tomkins is a lot better than he is being made to look on this thread but Vertonghen oozes class, control and has a top mentality - would be a big loss if we get Tomkins instead

Tomkins is not the answer. Caulker, as everyone here has pointed out, is younger and already better and still has plenty of potential left to be fulfilled.

Tomkins is 23, had one good season in the championship and he looked a complete liability in the Prem before they went down.
Decent player but never any better than mid table prem class I think. Certainly not the man to help us achieve where we want to go.

If he's going to be 5th choice, behind Verts, Kaboul, Daws and Caulker then yes. Otherwise no thanks.

We already have Caulker, who I would prefer given opportunities over this chap.

No thanks.

Tomkins is a pretty good defender and I wouldn't object to getting him at all, but I think there are higher priority targets as others have said.

If we bring him and Green in then that is indicative of where we are going, or rather where we ain't going!

Would be disappointed if this happens.

Is he better than Caulker? If not then jog on. We need a top CB not a 5th place one

James won't be leaving West Ham, whilst Big Sam is the manager. Also as i've previously said he got a 200% wage rise, backdated to January, when the club was promoted.

Why anyone could ever rate him, in any way, is beyond me. He's Anthony Gardner (God bless him). Without the pace.

Yep. Agree 100%.

Never seen the fuss, to be honest I'm not sure there ever was much of a fuss about him! Apart from the spanners of course but they over rate their youth players massively
