I hope not, 18 months as far too long to be out injured without kicking a ball in this day and age.

18 months? He's only been out 12 months now, and there's nothing to suggest he hasn't been kicking a ball in training.

Just checked, it's in an article about Townsend, nothing to see imo.

Townsend has been in and out of the Spurs team under Pochettino since missing the World Cup through injury.

He has started the last five successive Tottenham games, but is often the first player to be substituted at around the 60-minute mark.

Pochettino is expected to sign Jay Rodriguez from former club Southampton this summer, which will increase competition in the forward positions at Spurs.

There also remains an issue surrounding £30million record signing Erik Lamela, who was preferred to Townsend during the first half of the season.

Ok but assuming he doesn't play before the end of this season, the very earliest he would be available would be August which would make it 17 months.

Pre-season? Reserve team?

Big risk, very bad knee injuries can flair up again. Rossi's knee went again when he started playing top level football again iirc. He relies on his pace, good player but I'm not sure.

If he's to primarily play striker, I'm all for it. But as we see with Chadli, we need a wide option more skilled at unlocking tight spaces from the flank rather than another wide auxiliary forward who just makes runs in behind (even less meaningful in the high line/press system) and pops up in the right places at the right time.

I think chadlis problem is finishing and general not being stupid, not unlocking things

Oh man, I view it as the complete opposite. He's a great finisher in the box under pressure IMO (Swansea goal a month ago, goal at the Emirates, at Aston Villa in November, second goal against Benfica in Europe last season), but he can't get around his fullback to save his life. He induces no stretch, beats no fullbacks, makes no attempts from range to pry open a stubborn back line, and makes very few incisive passes. He's a receiver of plays, not the creator of them. This is also how J Rod played for Saints last season, as he primarily made runs in behind from the flank. That was tremendously easier to do for Saints considering how much more space they were afforded than we are, and how much quicker they were to get forward and thus catch the opposition further forward.

Would Spurs sign a crock with his recent record? If so then they'll have their medical team all over this and have him insured to the hilt. If not then they'll sign him anyway and hope he's going to make a recovery and we've once again got a bargain. No pressure imo - we'll have it covered.

Really not the fans (us) concern really.

I don't think anyone will take a risk on him this summer unless he is dirt cheap. Isn't his contract up next summer?

We'll obviously put him through his paces before signing him. If he's fit, then I'm all for it. He can take the pressure off Kane while also playing wide left when needed. Scored 14 prem goals last year and missed the last three months of the season. He knows Poch, knows the system and it works for him. If fit, he'd be perfect.

You surely have to allow someone at least a season of first team football after a cruciate before even considering signing them. Recovering physically is one thing, adapting your game to the different ways your movement is restricted is quite another. It's incredibly rare a player can twist and turn the same after such a serious knee injury. Then there's the mental side as to whether they're ready to throw themselves into challenges again. Many players are never the same. Man utd have done £36M on Falcao and they're basically paying him all that money to continue his recovery.

Im sure MoPo and Mitchell has been monitoring J Rod's progress, if they are truly interested in bringing him to Spurs. So will know the probability of him getting back 100% again. Regarding his injuries, im more confident with MoPo and his team in managing J Rod's recovery. The fitness and the injury report of the Spurs players this season is truly impeccable; Top notch.
