This move needs time and a long medical to go ahead to test his fitness. Reading the Southampton forum they don't seem optimistic he'll feature this season so why make a last minute move to sign him?

His contract is up 2016 from what I believe so his value will keep going down and if we really still want him we can go for him in the summer.

If he does end up playing 4-5 games at the end of the season and starts looking like he did before the injury then City et al will be going in with the big bucks.

IMO if we want to sign him then we should do so now, assuming we are confident on his injury.

When Poch was at Southampton Lallana and Rodriguez where the two players I coveted most so I'd be very happy if we signed him.

However, the guy hasn't even played 1 minute of football for over 9 months. There's no way we'd be buying him today unless Southampton were practically giving him away.

Southampton couldn't fill their bench at the weekend, as much as I'd welcome it, I can't see them selling unless they go Levy-mental tonight.

Southampton will be in no rush whatsoever to offload the lad if they did they would still be demanding at least £15m minimum anything less would surely set alarm bells ringing to his long term fitness after a pretty bad injury. i cant see this happening at all and even if he was to come we wouldn't see the best from him until next season. i just don't see Levy laying out a hefty fee on him today. the "outs" are more important before anything happens with incoming players.

Think he must be a little more fucked than they are letting on.

In the beginning he was supposedly going to be back around October, now we're in Feb and there is no sign and now talk of the end of the season. Players very rarely come back the same after a CL injury anyway but a 14 month lay off as well hints to me that something has gone wrong with his recovery.

I read Paul Lake's book a while back about his struggles and ultimate failure to recover from a ACL. OK this was the early 90's but it does sound like a hellish injury if the surgery fails.

It's actually a commonly held misconception that we've gotten any better at fixing ACL injuries. While we have more techniques now for putting them back together, the fact of the matter is it's still piecing together a band of cartilage which doesn't even have its own blood flow for nutrients for growth/repair. So no matter what we do, it's going to take a lot of time. So your book there applies just as much today as it did in the 90's.

I do remember him having to have a secondary surgery, and with this further delay it is possible that they're just willing to be careful. They do have a good thing going, so it's entirely pointless to rush a player back with everything they have going on. But what you're saying is also possible, and it's just not repairing like it should be. Not every player recovers from ACL tears.

The issue will undoubtably be fluid on the knee. I would imagine he started stepping up his recovery and the inflammation started and kept reoccurring even after sufficient rest.

I would be very surprised if we attempt to sign him.

IF he can recover from his injury would be the best option to sign for forward cover as can play up top but also wide left in tea, so can fit him and Kane in same side.
