I suppose to be rated in your book a player has to be able to 'nuts' someone, or cruyff turn someone.

no. they just have to help the team work and flow as a unit. this involves more than just having a good engine. jj's sense of positioning is crap. he only ever makes himself available to receive the simplest passes, and nine times out of ten, plays a simple one himself.

the argument that you can't appreciate his game on the tv (because he does all of his work off-screen) is as lame as jenas's strength on the ball. i was at the torino game and he gave a carbon-copy of his sunderland performance. lots of running, complimented by a pass the buck attitude when on the ball. for me, jenas as a player is summed up perfectly by the arsenal 2-2 draw. useless all match, popping up with a sweet goal to appease everyone, then carrying his crap performance into the next game. NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

As someone else said, if Jenas is the best midfielder at the club, then we have problems.

Jenas is average at best and could never for the life of him control an entire game. Never.

And the team will most definately NOT "dance to the rythym of JJ's drum" as Jol put it.

And how does he work hard? When he gets tackled, he just sits there sulking.

He's not a terrible player, just not a very good one and millions of light miles away from a top 4 midfielder.

We have JJ, Zokora and Hudd who between the three of them cover the necessary tasks of a quality midfield. The first two sure can run but to what end? Only Hudd can supply the incisive pass. JJ and Hudd can both get their share of goals both possessing a decent shot but Zokora has no ability in this area. Only Hudd of the three is anywhere above average in the air but unfortunately possesses the turning circle of the QE2. MJ and the scribbler are only 'coaching 101' men and have not got the vision to devise a system to accomodate all three in the same midfield. I'd play Jenas at RM (or RB) until Lennon returns.

Exactly, hes not terrible but hes not great. Hes frustrating at times, but most importantly I agree hes not going to be a player who carries us into the top 4.

If Jenas was really that good, then why are people so split on his ability. I never hear King or Berbatov get criticised, that’s because they're the best players. Jenas is very inconsistent. That’s why there is such a large amount of people saying he isn’t good enough. There are two new kids in town and it will not be too long before Jenas will be at Man City, the Spanners or Portsmouth being not quite good enough. He needs to improve and fast!

Time is ticking for Zokora too. He needs to be more consistent. My main concern is that if these two players have one of there off days at the same time, then three points go begging.

Hey moderators, I just thought of a fantastic Idea, lets create a whole new forum (like the general football or transfer rumour forum) and call Jermaine Jenas.

Anything JJ related can be shoved in there, so that we would not have to see all these threads popping up as soon as one dissapears to page 2

I think JJ COULD be our best midfielder, what he needs is someone in the team (like Carrick) to hold and sit infront of the back four, then his running is more effective as he doesn't need to be running towards our own goal, he's better running into the opponents box arriving late, knicking a goal etc.....Do we have that player to compliment him? yes. is that player Zokora? no. Its Huddlestone, for me, our 1st choice CM should be Thudd and JJ, then Thudd and Zokora, cos Thud needs a good pacey runner with him, Tainio therefore would be no good. Unless we play with 3 Cm's.

To be fair, Thud looked very poor defensivly when he came on

i rate jenas but he pisses me off big time. he never really seems to pull it out the bag when we need him against the big boys or in the difficult away matches. i guarantee that derby this weekend he'll play well however i could have bet good money he would have been shit away at sunderland.

he has all the potential however he doesnt stamp his authority on a game enough for me nor is he anything near consistant enough. i dont give a shit how much running he does - that should go as a given, not as one of his attributes as far as im concerned.

he needs a bit of a rocket up his arse, and for fucks sake he needs to stop being such a wimp like he was against sunderland. the way he was outmuscled and pining for freekicks was embarrassing to watch.

we as spurs fans should expect more from him on a more regular basis.

you can always tell how good a player is by asking fans of other clubs what they think of him. i asked some people i work with (arsenal, liverpool, man u fans) what they thought of jenas.

man u fan - "crap"
liverpool fan - "wank"
arsenal fan - "worse than Flamini."

says it all really.

have either of you ever played the game, do you undertsand the game?

What Jenas gives us is an engine, a 110% commitment (unlike some), he is box to box and even with his injuries he bagged us 7 or 8 goals last year. Take him out and we will be overrun. I suppose to be rated in your book a player has to be able to 'nuts' someone, or cruyff turn someone. You clearly do not see what his role is in our team. Jol clearly does, thank god for that!

It's true that he covers more ground than any other. There are times in games when he is with the ball not knowing what to do next, and then he is overpowered and stumbles on the ground.

Jenas can't be that consistent. He's a CM who loves to play off the ball. How the hell is he supposed to be consistent if we have no CM getting him the ball in good positions consistently. I hope KPB is our answer. Cause Zoko isn't going to cut it. I think Zoko would be bette in a 3 man midfield, but his game isn't all around enough to play CM in a 2 man midfield for a squad with big ambitions.

are you joking? zokora gave him the ball on countless occassions against sunderland. all jenas did was look clueless for a couple of seconds before passing it back to him. the fact he never receives the ball in good positions is because he never gets into any.

i response to jj87, i've never been fickle in regards to jenas. i've always thought he was a complete donkey.

 That sums him up perfectly for me, i tried to rep you but apparently need to spread it around first.

Chelsea Fan - "He is More of a liability, and cant hold on to the ball"

Liverpool fan - "I thought you would have got shot of him, but i guess no-one wants him, massively overrated"

Celtic Fan - "He must be giving Jol half his wages to play"

As for me, well, the old saying, "if you have not got anything good to say about someone, then say nothing"....well i`ll stay quiet and say nothing........

Yes it does.

It says that the people you work with are quite probably twats. If that's the most considered opinion they can give, try asking your stapler instead. It will have a similar level of argument & is far more effective at fixing documents together.

Seriously though, there are several players at each of those clubs that, because I don't watch them as carefully as I watch our players, I think are good whereas their own fans who pay closer attention think the players are rubbish. Our fans are split on Jenas because he's inconsistent. Some see the good, some don't, some flat-out refuse to whether its there or not.

If more of our players had JJ's attitude we'd be a lot better side I know that much.

He always makes himself available for a pass, he never hides, and he never stops running.

If only we could say the same thing about 'BerbaGod' on Saturday, supposedly our best player.
