On the surface, yes—unless there is a very good reason. And although we don't know what went on behind the scenes, there's a very clear suggestion that Bostock's dad deliberately misled Jordan about the boy's intentions (or his intentions). All in all, it smacks a little of Sky Andrew and Judas.

It's not this Bostock saga that's made me not like Jordan, i've never liked him - arrogant chud who thinks acting like a gang-star makes everyone think he's cool. He's not. As a chairman he also has a big mouth, not just on this situation, i mean generally he thinks himself as some kind of modern day hero just because he has the same feeling regarding agents as 99% of the footballing world, the difference being he calls a spade a spade when sometimes you need to use your head and stfu...

Before invoking the heinous ghost of Judas, and again none of us know what was going on, here's another possible scenario.

Bostock makes his Palace debut in October 2007. Either then, or shortly afterwards, Warnock tells the press:
"He has a good touch and good vision but I will have to tell him to cut out the showboating."

Bostock tells his Dad that a Palace coach tells him Warnock isn't convinced, and doesn't trust him. Between October 2007 and the end of the season, Bostock makes only four more appearances for Palace (two as a sub).

Bostock is effectively in a Bosman situation. Everyone from Barca to Spurs is speaking to his Dad who ultimately wants his son to develop into the best player he can possible become. Dad and John decide Spurs is the best footballing option (financially the deal will be lucrative wherever he goes).

Dad also knows that if he tells Jordan that his son won't be signing in January, there's a good chance that Jordan will go nuts and make his son's life utterly miserable. Maybe Dad also wanted to see how Palace's coaches developed his son between January and now. So, Dad didn't tell Jordan that his son would be joining Spurs.

Is this scenario correct? None of us know. But imo it's at least as plausible as the notion that Jordan and Warnock are Knights in Shining Armour who've been betrayed by that nasty money-grubbing Mr Bostock.

Plus I wouldn't be surprized if Palace don't get a British record compensation award at the Tribunal, given that £5 million in clauses was being discussed in the press and Barca wanted young Bostock.

From my understanding of the deal, John Bostock was technically a Bosman and Spurs were within their rights according to the laws of the game to approach Bostock before he signed professionally. Now I can understand Palace's grievances having nurtured the boy and given him a platform to show case his talents-and the rules should therefore be valuated under FIFA regarding non-professionals.. (Fabregas another example).

THFC should compensate them, but it doesn't make him a Judas for wanting to develop himself at a higher level...(imo)

from my palace season ticket holding friend .. he aint happy

"Bostock gave 3 high profile interviews just before his 16th birthday bigging
up how he was palace through & through, & felt a debt of gratitude to the
club for all they had done with him. How he was going to sign on his 16th
birthday & pay that debt back. He hasn't done so, & that is what has upset
most Palace fans.

To be honest I am actually reasonably happy that it is Spurs he's gone to. I
am not sure about your record with young players, but I think everything
about the club is about to get better under Ramos, there is something about
him, although the problem at Spurs may well be your board !

I think that, in part, mine & a lot of Palace fans anger is that , the
Bostocks have made a big deal about how they are palace through & through,
so not signing his first pro terms with us, playing for a season & then
going for a reasonable fee seems to be purely about the money. I fail to see
how even half a season next year could have harmed him. If he's as good as
everybody seems to think he is he'd have got his move, the club would have
got some return on it's investment, after all he has been in the palace
academy since he was 7. The Bostocks aalso leaked the story that he'd signed
for Spurs on the day of our 2nd leg of the play off semi's , which certainly
didn't win them any friends either.
But overall I am happy he's gone to Spurs as opposed to Chavski, which were
the srongest competitors for his signature apparently. I think having seen
his debut, & subsequent appearances, you have got a real talent. We were
never going to hold onto him for long, but a proper fee would have been
nice. The prediction is that he will be a proper world star by his early
20's. You never know, but he looks to have the right physique & talent to do
it. I hope he makes it I really do, it'll be nice to see someone schooled by
palace right up there at the top."

I love how Jordan's saying Bostock hasn't joined us, he is powerless to resist, Bostock is under no sort of professional contract. Under law, we have to compensate them, and I'm sure we will, probably for about £3m in total, but Jordan won't have a say. If we offer less money than Jordan will accept, the courts will decide, and, Spurs have to pay whatever the judge decides is fair. It's nothing to worry about, especially as Jordan comes accross as a **** to everyone, I doubt any judge would award him too much money.

Like Sol?

Yes and no.

Campbell & Andrew pocketed the transfer fee Spurs would have got for him (in increased wages & signing on fees): they ripped us off. Indeed, their behaviour appeared so premeditated that Levy didn't dare risk the same scenario happening with Defoe & Andrew, and sold Jermain before his contract was deliberately run down.

John Bostock is a young player about to sign his first professional contract. He has great potential. He may be an international class player. He may end up in the Conference. He and his parents clearly think Spurs are the best club to develop his potential. Crystal Palace will be very well compensated if he lives up to his potential - so the club haven't been cheated financially. However, their fans have been deprived of the chance of seeing an outstanding young talent playing for their team.

With hindsight, Bostock was probably unwise to make comments about being "Palace thorough and through". Except I'm sure it's true, and he was fifteen when he made the comments, so they're entirely understandable. After all, he and his Dad are Eagles' fans. And they have decided, for footballing reasons, that John is most likely to fulfil his potential at another club, Spurs.

Plus, as I wrote above, I wouldn't be surprized if Bostock was not Warnock's idea of a Championship midfield player. Bostock is a thoroughbred of a player, and training & playing with top quality players will bring his game on faster than getting clogged by the likes of Shaun Derry in training....

One final thought: I really think Spurs fans should be very careful about encouraging this tenuous comparison of Bostock & Judas. The kid is 16 and, from what I've seen, is technically outstanding. He should be learning his trade at a top EPL team with top quality coaches.

i kinda feel sorry for palace, the reports do make it look like they were led on by him and his father, i remember how much it hurt when we lost sol, its not nice to lose the glemaing light in an otherwise shite team for little or no money especially when you have been lied to for a period of time

The reason behind the wording on our site about this transfer, as far as I understand, is that Jordan recieved texts from Sky saying you'd announced an agreement with us. Which you haven't yet, although I'd prefer an agreement, as its generally reckoned a tribunial could take between 6 and 8 weeks - and I'd prefer our down payment now.

Is it possible to "reach an agreement" with an irate, pissed-off Jordan?
