toby played for Ath Madrid and Ajax, not fecking blackburn
An relatively average period at Atletico. In many peoples' eyes, he wasn't completely proven at the highest level. Turned out he was the best CB in the league.

he may not have been fully proven, but he had a lot more to back it up prior to his main season.

He's also proven in the prem which we know Poch likes. I think he'll surprise people just as Toby and Wanyama did tbh.

We need someone who has pace and goals from out wide and can be a better option for Harry.

He is not that technical and he does not have the best football brain imo. Yeah sure he has pace but he rarely use it to his advantage - something that is very frustrating to watch. He has decent movement in the box though - something that would imply that his footballing brain maybe can be developed to a greater level.
He works hard and should fit the way we play but i can't see him make much of a difference. Im almost certain that this will be a mistake. Hope i'm wrong if we end up buying him.

I quite like him and think despite what he did in the second half of last season he is very underrated. However - I am not sure how much he would offer to this squad as it stands ...

IMO (and feel very free to disagree), signing King would have loud echoes of our purchase of Clint Dempsey. Strong "thanks, but no thanks" from me.
Good comparison. Dempsey scored some vital goals for us but he was pretty awful most of the time. Would fuck up even simple passes.

King could be Dempsey with pace.

PLEASE not this thread again.... I can truly see us ending up with King and it will be such a come down after Balde.... we have royally fucked up this summer... Levy has big questions to answer if Poch or Alli walk.

No one can be surprised that Rose wants out which is very clear from Ali Z ITK but also fact press are coming back with it, that's clearly agent feeding them, does no one remember the Rose interview at end of last season and what ambition have we shown???

I see your point but only one season in the Prem doesnt make you proven, if he did it again yes that adds more credence.

Outside of that king is not worth a 30M risk imo

If he does it again, he'll be out of our reach. We've got to take a punt. Blade would have been a punt as well. The good news is that we have the best young coach in the world and if anyone can make King a player good enough for us, so can Poch.

I'm not slagging you off personally at all so I really hope it doesn't come across that way but, genuinely, read similar comments on Wanyama who SC were even more split on than King. I'd say the main thing we need is someone who has the tools to play the Poch way - he does. Then it's all about coaching which Poch does as well as anyone.

Balde may have a higher ceiling and Poch would get him younger but no guarantee on either of them tbh

I see your point and i actually think King is decent dont get me wrong. For the club and they way we work Keita has one year left and as young has the potential, but as one year left he is considerably cheaper and therefore as punts go it would be a potentially less of a loss as keita wouldnt cost 30M.

shots per goal is a hugely fluctuating stat and not really worth putting much stock into.

I wrote a big thing on King and stats recently if you want a slightly more advanced version:

won't be everyone's cup of tea but one thing is next to certain, his goal rate will slow up

Just to bounce off this, for expected goals I had King with 14 Non penalty goals from 8.6 expected.
I get Keita at 14 NPGs from an expectation of 6.8!

That's nuts. For defined big chances (which are generally converted at a rate of about 40%) Keita was 8/9 last year after going 2/15 in the two previous seasons. Almost certainly he will regress this coming season, as will KIng.

All this tells me if links with these two are true, is that it is unlikely that people linked with the club are looking at the process, which would be disappointing if true

So people shouldn't be wanking over Keita but hating on King?

Should be cautious about both?

It depends on expectation. If anyone (or indeed the club) is looking at these two and thinking "their goal record looks tasty" then the bottom line is that it's likely deceptive. Other aspects of their play outside of goalscoring may appeal for different reasons

Sorry what do you mean by unsustainable scoring rates?

I understand if people aren't happy with this link but then you also, and I'm not sure on your opinion on it, have to have been against the keita signing aswell based the fact he only had one prolific season aswell and scored half his goals in 5 games

If you were against the keita signing or at least not excited by it then your view is valid, otherwise I don't see the logic in being annoyed at king being our backup option
Scoring rates are basically how many of your shots on target end in goals. His rates are unsustainable. As in no player - even the Messi's and Ronaldo's of the world have that many go in that frequently. He is going to regress.

As for the Keita comments I am against the Keita signing. But only due to personality and character which I think are a critically overlooked component of player acquisitions. As far as comparing him to King I would massively side with Keita as his age is a massive advantage and the fact he looks better in the non-striker roles than King.

Alli played for MK, Rose Leeds, Walker Sheffield utd, wanyama Soton, dembele Fulham, Kane was on loan at Millwall. Past clubs mean nothing. In fact if a player does well with average team mates it should be a good sign. King might not be the player for us but previous clubs mean nothing.

Actually feel he's a logical signing; not a big name therefore won't upset applecart; decent season and created chances for his (mediocre) side; yet to be exposed to Poch's coaching; prem experience

Ffs mate, way to take a comment out of context, I agree players from anywhere can succeed, but the discussion was about being proven at the highest level not whether good enough...read the convo first before jumping on it.

I was arguing with the point that King and alderweireld had the same level of top level football before there big prem year.
