Lampard Loses Mother!!

Chelsea and England midfielder Frank Lampard is mourning the loss of his mother, Pat, casting doubt over his participation in the end-of-season run-in.

"Everybody at Chelsea Football Club is absolutely devastated to hear the tragic news of the passing away of Pat Lampard, Frank's mother," the club said on their website.

"Our sincerest and deepest condolences go out to Frank, his father Frank Snr, sisters Natalie and Claire and to their immediate family and friends.

"Pat was a very familiar face to many people at Chelsea FC. Her unswerving support for her son's career was evident at virtually every game that Frank participated in regardless of where it was being played, she would always be there to watch him with Frank's dad. Pat will be deeply missed by everyone at Chelsea.

"The club will be offering all the support it can to Frank and his family at this time."

It is not known whether Lampard will feature in the Premier League title clash at home to Manchester United this coming weekend.

Lampard had been absent from training while tending to his sick mother and missed the 1-0 win over Everton last week, although he played in the 1-1 Champions League draw at Liverpool in midweek.

Pat Lampard, 58, was admitted to hospital with pneumonia last week.

It was understood that her condition had improved, allowing her son to play at Anfield, but his absence from training on the day of her death led to fears that her condition had deteriorated.

Don't like Lampard as a player or person, but do feel sorry for him. Hope he get's through it eventually.

I'm not really a fan of Frank but all the best to him and his family - no one deserves to lose their mum.

As a player, I've never particularly liked him. As a person though, I think he's always come across as a nice guy, and I feel really really bad for him. This is terrible news, and I can only hope he, and the rest of his family, get through this tragic time.

RIP Pat and all the best Frank and family.

Really can sympathise. My mother died of a serious chest infection nearly three years ago, relapsing after seeming to make a recovery, just like Pat. Difference is, she was nearly 30 years older than Pat so can be said to have had a great run. As others have said, never liked FF, or at least his attitude on the pitch, but you have to put that kind of thing aside.

So which set of supporters are going to be first to sing to him

"Lampard - you let your mother down"?

Yeah, I hope no fans chant any songs about his mum, he is probably worried about that.
Twat on the pitch, decent bloke off it.

Dunno what I'd do without my mum, best wishes to the family lampard.

Very sad news. He certainly doesn't deserve half the stick he gets (Terry is a far more repellent individual) and for a while was England's best player. Still a fine Premiership midfielder, too. Just wanted to put that in to the balance the overall 'he's a twat but I feel bad for him' mood.

On an unrelated note, I'm not sure the exclamation marks are entirely in keeping with the sombreness of the occasion but it's up to you, I suppose.

I wonder what the reaction on the West ham boards are, I hope something like this makes them wake up and realise how pathetic they all are giving him all that unjust abuse.

I'm all for abusing ex players if they leave a bad taste in the month when they leave, but they got 10 million for Frank when is wasn't even half the player he is today. They should be grateful to him.
