Really bad purchase at Leverkeusen's asking price. My main worry is he just doesn't fit Poch's set-up or the team's needs. We have a speedy, creative little wide attacking player in Moura. What we need is a physical wide forward with clinical, two-footed finishing who can play across the front line and hold the ball up and/or cover for Kane in certain game situations, like Sonny. Because we dominate possession, IMHO the physical hold up and build up play, particularly on the edge of the box, is critical. Zaha and Martial fit the bill and offer a nice complement and competition for Son. But I just don't think Bailey's skill set matches up at all. At Leverkeusen he's predominantly a counter-attacking player and not a possession player. Not a threat in the air. Not a clinical finisher. If we splurged a bunch of Alderweireld money on Bailey it would reek of desperation to me.

I’ve only watched 2 Leverkusen games and was in Germany and trollied during one but didn’t see anything that suggested he is a “next level” player for us against deep defending teams or our elite peers - the only two types of league teams we face these days.

Maybe this is one of those where we're planning on waiting for the other clubs to move for their targets. And then if he's still an option with not long to go we can try and make it happen, like with Davinson Sanchez.

Could see someone moving for him. I know they've asked for a lot in the past but if someone came in with 50m euros I think they'd seriously consider it. 3 weeks to spend the money too.

Seemed to deal well with them on Son. Plus they have the Edwards interest.

Haven't seen anything other than videos but seems exciting and highly rated. Assumed we wanted more of a finished article to be honest though.

This sounds a much better option than Zaha, because:

1. Zaha is dead
2. Even dead, Zaha would be ridiculously expensive
3. Unlike Zaha, I've not seen enough of Bailey to say he's absurdly overrated

This is the problem these days. All you need is an an amazing youtube vid, and a couple of people who rate you, and the hype train starts rolling. This creates some kind of mass delusion that engulfs people to believe said player is the second comming. The few dissenters either get villified or ignored as the train keeps chugging along.
This is general point about players, especially players from abroad, rather than Bailey himself, who I know nothing about. People just get so worked up about players they've never/barely seen play. It get's more ridiculous every season.
