The problem isn't whether this decision was right or wrong, it's that the rule is interpreted slightly differently by ever referee/linesman.
There are not disagreements on interpretations here. Every referee and assistant referee in the Premier League would say that Kane is not offside because Lovern deliberately played the ball (and it was not an attempt to make a save). They've all received the same instruction from FIFA/IFAB and UEFA. This exact type of situation has been pounded into my head by the US referee program (as instructed by FIFA/IFAB) over the past couple years. 100% not offside.
