Onomah has plenty of talent but looked a bit overawed and languid tonight.
Got some time to sort the likes of Winks Onomah, Harrison and CCV a loan in January as they will all benefit from a good stint of competitive football and come back better players next season.
Is this a polite way to say he's a bag of shite?

Onomah is too wasteful right now. Too many chances missed, poor control or overly ambitious, trying to run between players. But the weakness was we had our full backs pegged back by their balls over the top, which meant we had no width and very few balls into the box. Poch did not address this unfortunately. Wanyama is clearly in great form and improved the whole picture, but Dier did not cover the gaps or drop in to allow Trippier forward, so their press nullified our outlets.
Frustrating to watch. Onomah offers next to no goal threat and will not cross the ball in from the right. Carroll was too slow and headless chicken. Janssen must be so frustrated right now. No service in from out wide, I feel for him.

We got entirely what we deserved. It really is like watching the Redknapp era all over again. Exact same approach with the exact same outcome.

Jansen is a good player. Good movement and hold up play. It's astonishing how bad Lamela is in terms of creativity - Jansen was practically begging for it so many times

With Onomah it is clear that, like Kane when he was a kid coming into the team, he's got growing to do and to get stronger and less bambi like. He can't quite do some of the things he wants to do against men yet, especially out wide. He's done some decent things tonight, he's done some poor things. He is languid, but he's pressed pretty well, not always tracked back and has looked tired later on.

It happens when you're a rookie. I don't know what people expect? Put several of them in a team like this with others who've played no football themselves and they have no protection. I don't think he of any of the others disgraced themselves. It's all part of the learning curve.

Or nah, he lost the ball sometimes, means he's SHIT.

I expecting him to show more enthusiasm & kind of verve the L'Pool players of a similar age showed. He's not improved in the time he's been around the 1st team squad & for me he's a big disappointment, because I had high hopes for him & he's not just treading water he's going backwards.

For those criticisms of our fullbacks, just look at how much protection they had in front of them.. They did the best they can..

With Wanyama playing beside him, Winks seemed more assured.. Great job..

Onomah was like floating throughout... Shockingly in disarray today..

Lamela should be the one displacing the ineffective Eriksen in the centre against Leicester..

Janssen needs some talking to... Fucking disappointing to his body language and temperament.. Is a disgrace for me to have this guy upfront constantly gesturing and whining everything that went against him.. Fantastic penalty though..

Poch gotta get back the effective passes and strong positioning of the team before losing the plot to other teams finding out how we can be countered.. He seriously can't be saying he is please when he obviously was not........

We need to put this into perspective.

These kids toweled Gillingham a month ago and now come up against a decent PL at near full strength.

Seriously guys, what did you expect. A 1-2 scoreline was a fair result for us considering our line up.

Decent in spells but some disappointing performances

Both Wimmer and Davies look so limited on the ball.
I don't think either suit our style to be honest.

Which I have seen in Davies since day one, but Wimmer showed the ability to play out the back last year. His passing was superb. It is mentally where he is not there. The talent is as put on display last year, but a he is clearly not locked into the system this year. If that can't be cleared up then shitty.

Over reaction to our back ups. The only difference was strurridge. Who when fit is a 50 million pound player. Would loved to have seen what a fully fit Kane would have done
100% spot on.

Sturridge also got lucky with the first goal and 2nd was a good run and finish. He made the difference.

We played well for periods but the early goal killed us and we looked a little toothless up front ( as usual), otherwise can't really fault too many of them apart from the attacking 4 weren't great. As you said, great experience from them and hard game away to L/pool. Just a little frustrating we didn't give it a bit of a better go As I thought our 2nd string would be better than theirs.

In defence of GKN and Wimmer, who were both below par. It is tricky to come into the team after zero football and perform at a high level. Especially when you are conscious of the fact you need to impress.

Don't shit the bed. It's only the League Cup and some good game time for the youngsters in a match that mean something.

I think to bring on the youngsters and fringe players it's better to introduce them into a squad that keeps part of the core of the 1st choice XI. Otherwise the system and style is different and it's hard to play properly. It why there were so many stupid unforced errors from decent technical players.
THIS exactly why you cannot judge any of the players with so many changes pointless.

He's clearly talented but if we are using the Kane analogy then he desperately needs to go out on loan come January to 'toughen up' both physically and mentally.

Can't see him featuring much going forwards this season and nothing from tonight's performance suggest that he should.
Agreed. He has potential but needs a few years to toughen up and gain experience, loan seems best for him.

I don't agree. They played a week side too. I don't see how Sturridge and Origi make that squad outstanding. We had plenty of experience out there that should have understood the situation and calmed the team.

If I've learnt one thing from tonight it's Onomah shouldn't be stuck out on the wing.

Few points from me before bed -

- The gulf in class between Spurs with Walker and Rose v the other two full backs is frightening.

- Janssen I felt was our MOTM and deserved his goal. He was rightly frustrated with his service at times and only Lamela looked on his wavelength when he came on.

- We were lucky to only be 2-0 down when the penalty came.

- N'Koudou looked alarmingly poor in comparison to his cameo appearances, maybe the occasion (and the unfortunate slip) got to him. Shout to Klopp putting the pace of the youngster in against him.

- Winks will definately make it as a Premier League player long term. Over plays it at times but I would like to see him given a few games with Wanyama in the 2 or slightly higher up in the 4-1-4-1.

- As a staunch supporter of Carroll's ability I was dissapointed with his lack of character to get on the ball in tight areas and make the telling pass second half. His face when he came off suggests he knows this was a huge chance missed and I wouldn't be surprised to see him go on loan Jan.

- Carter-Vickers to me (in the short spells I have seen him so far) looks clumsy and susceptible to pace, which is a worry when he is likely to come up against pace every week as a Premier League centre half. Jury's out.

- Onomah got worse as the game went on but never hid which is encouraging. He is really good at the press but I will wait to be convinced if he has the guile to play in an attacking position.

- Wimmer looks much better with one of the main men next to him. All over the place at times tonight.

- Dier was poor today. As someone else said not a captains performance at all and I don't fancy him as the 1 in the 4-1-4-1.

- Wanyama change should have happened at half time.

- Shout out to Harrison who needs to not get his head down and enjoy the fact he has just played a first team game at Anfield for the greatest football club in the world.

Night all
