No defenders on it, I find this a little strange when we only have 3 natural defenders playing with a makeshift midfield player helping out.

With TT, Hudd, Adel and O'Hara on the bench we have a total of 9 midfield players involved.

Agreed. And Taarabt is presumably the reserve "striker", although if Defoe or Berba had to come off, presumably Adel would play as an ACM or deep-lying striker.
