No.

In fairness to myself, I did say after the equally dispiriting display at the Emirates that what tiny little chance we had was totally and utterly gone.

In even more fairness to myself, what I had been saying from very early on in the season was that City were clear, clear favourites, and our chance was a very slight chance.

I find it interesting that whenever we have a poor, dispiriting display the first thought of certain posters is to think of digging someone out who made a more positive prognosis than they did.

It is equally interesting that they never think of digging out the things that those same posters got right. Like, for instance, I was the only one (so far as I know) who predicted way back at the start of the 2009/10 season that we would finish above Liverpool and in the top four. I got a lot of abuse for it - but funnily enough, when it happened no-one ever apologised or tagged me to say I was right. Every season after that I said we would finish above Liverpool and explained why it was happening - I got abuse and whinged at for writing long posts (necessary for complex explanations, I'm afraid). No-one wanted to apologise or tag me for the seven seasons out of eight I was right. Funnily enough, when I explained that United was a poisoned chalice and they would struggle for three or four seasons I got abuse for suggesting such a preposterous thing - but no-one tagged me to apologise or point out that I was right. Indeed, way back in 2005 or 2006 I suggested that the days of the Sky Four were numbered, there would likely be a top five or six and we would be part of it. You guessed it...no tagging to say I was right. Again, I said after our CC final appearance under Poch that we had the basis of the best squad since Burkinshaw's days, if not before. A lot of folk were saying it by the end of last season - did anyone tag me or link to my posts saying it? No.

The issue I have with the ultra negatives is that it is so easy. We could all just say, we will be lucky to finish eighth because, guess what, if it is wrong, as it has been every season for the last eight, you can just smile and say you are so pleased you were wrong. When you actually predict anything positive, based on actually thinking about things, you get abuse at the time, the negatives are too busy being happy to be wrong to actually go back and apologise, or (heaven forbid) actually offer some praise, that you were right. But, hell, a bad performance, a bad result, a bad patch, a disappointing conclusion to the season and they are falling over themselves to call you out.

Well done, just like the charming falla when we lost at the Emirates, I was actually quite despondent about that performance too. Not the result, the performance. There is so much is much missing that was the hallmark of Poch's squad since he first arrived, that is now just unimaginative passing about at the back and dithering. So, yeah, I really needed you to point out that I didn't anticipate Dembélé is basically a liability now for being a split second slower at everything that made him great even last season, that Eriksen has called a halt to his season after Ireland, Dele has taken a sabbatical, that Rose has come back a bag of shite, that Lamela would take longer than anticipated to get back, that Victor and Toby would both miss a huge stretch of the season...

Cheers M8, have a good 'un :meh:

I'd give Winks a little slack today as he's been playing quite a number of games this season and he has also been ill recently.

With Wanyama on a long term absence, Poch should have blooded Foyth (as a CB) for some of the games against the lower half teams (Stoke, BHA) and played Dier as DM (rotated with Winks).
Disagree.. Winks was a little boy lost today. Contributed fuck all

I think we should put this defeat in proper perspective. While Shitty fielded their best 11, we were forced to play a much weakened defence, particularly when we have no one to attack the ball like Toby and Sanchez. Our 2 CBs today tend to stand off a little and without a beastly tackler in front of them, the Shitty forwards have things all their way.

There has been criticism of Rose which I find totally unfair as aside from the left side of the defence, he also had to come inside to cover the centre. In fact he made at least 3 very excellent blocks without which, we could have found ourselves even in worse straits. Surely he ran out of gas in the last 15-20 minutes, but that is excusable as he is still a bit off total match fitness after being off injured for so long.

We've just been beaten by the football equivalent of a Vuitton handbag...the sugar daddy clubs have sucked the life and competition out of top level football. The whole building a dominant brand and dominating the trophy cabinet is fucking dull.
Teams like Man City and PSG are making it really hard for me to even bother with this sport anymore, when you have teams that are basically owned by rich countries, then really what is the point anymore. American sport does a lot of things wrong but at least in most of their leagues all the teams are on a level playing field, football is fast becoming a joke now.

We win and we get a 30 page thread, nobody is interested. We lose and look at it.........

I get why people are so vexed now.

It isn't us losing at all. It's having to stay on SC all evening to vent :D

I think Silva was injured?

That’s just not true though - City had Silva and Stones out, their first choice players. And Kompany would have come in before Mangala.

It wasn’t injuries, although we don’t have as deep a squad, it was about application, work rate and belief. We had none of any of them.

Good shout Archie but I think by the comments on the thread fans are concerned what direction we are going in because we certainly are not moving forward.

Also Dembele may have his best days behind him but he put himself about a lot more than everyone else out there. Winks did fuck all to support him!

That was so bad it might actually make Kane consider his future in the summer.
I agree. I feel sorry for the guy. If he played at any of the other top sides where he, you know, got a bit of fucking service, he'd probably have 24 league goals already. If he walks, he's fucking entitled to.

I'd take a boat load of cash for Dele Alli TBH.
And for Dier!
(I'd keep Eriksen - but have him backed up and rest him more.)

Dele though very young appears to be a one season wonder and awash in his own self importance and headlines.

In fairness to Dier he wouldn't be on the pitch if Toby, Sanchez and Wanyama were all available.

I lost faith in Dier last season at Liverpool to influence this team. Good squad player though.

That’s bullshit excuse making - both West Ham and Southampton took them very deep and Ciy had to dig out a result. We just strolled up and presented them the points. They can have more money and better players, but their work rate and desire put us to shame tonight.
Exactly. Two of their fucking goals came from our throw-ins. We just offered our arses to them on a plate.

With our wages/transfer budget we our roughly where Levy expects us to be. 6th or 7th. Any higher it's a bonus. He knows we can't win the league. We shouldnt really be top four. How long does he expect us to punch above our weight? How long can we rely on Pochettino getting more out of this squad? How long can we expect to compete without buying players to improve our first team? How long can we compete by selling our best players to direct rivals? How long before another player leaves for more money?
The simple fact is we are roughly where we should be and that's still very hard to take.
Just can't get over what I've seen tonight though, we looked completely out of our depth. The players looked lost. Pochettino looked lost. Still didn't think our team had that performance in them. I was embarrassed watching that tonight. No quality, no passion, no fight, nothing.
Hope they all feel like shit tonight because they've all let the club and the fans down.
