They will have cancelled rest days for the police as soon as this happened. Just scaremongering by the press.

So isn't them cancelling leave for police an indication they will be stretched? 2+2 really does make 4 in this case, not scaremongering

Don't agree with that at all.

Not one iota?

The new King is rumoured to be a Burnley fan and was gifted a VIP season ticket by them at one point. The (new) Prince of Wales, as you mentioned, is a Villa fan and the Queen was rumoured to be Her Majesty the Gooner. And Harry, when conducting charity work with local children at the New Zealand government house in Wellington a few years back he was heard saying "most of the royal family are Arsenal fans" plus at one time he was regularly seen at England games and cup finals. So whilst we cannot know for a certainty, the evidence suggests they do have some sort of interest.

The report I saw suggested she might have been a west hame fan.

Kind of irrelevant whether the royals liked football or not. I’m sure that wasn’t a factor when considering whether to postpone this weekends matches. Rugby and cricket have gone ahead because that’s the decision they’ve made (though Welsh grassroots rugby has been cancelled with quite severe economic ramifications for clubs) and I’m sure she didn’t give a fuck about that but who cares. Different bodies have made different decisions in line with who they think they’ll offend less or what they personally felt.

I think it's pretty simple. Football is held to a different level of scrutiny to other sports by the likes of the Mall and the Telegraph, and the PL would have taken the view that some dimwit at a game would've done something that brought the whole thing into disrepute, and they didn't want the headlines.

It is, but people will keep on trying to make it out to be something it isn't. Like you for example.

They don't make decisions solely with who they may or may not offend or personal preference, they have a whole heap of factors to consider but those don't count do they.

That's you skirting around what you really want to say. Again.

I think we’ve got off on the wrong foot here. I’ve never once been disrespectful to the queen or anything and I’m not sure what you think I want to say? What I’ve wanted to say I’ve said. I’d have rathered the matches went ahead but understand why they haven’t.

Obviously there’s many things that have gone into the decision I’m just saying the queens preference for whatever sport isn’t one of them.

it seems that I have pissed you off for some reason. Apologies for that if so it certainly wasn’t my intention.

Mrs Cider Spurs says that the real debate should be whether ITV could've moved Emmerdale to another channel instead of not showing Thursday or Friday's episodes.

She mentioned something about some of you being, knobbers, whinging, peckerheads. But I can't remember in what order.

Of course, she jokes, she wouldn't call you knobbers, that's her pet name for me.

There is no right or wrong way to go about it (unless you're being a **** with how you express your opinion). Will being the head of the FA probably had a major part to play in postponements. The games have been postponed, no amount of moaning about it will change that.

It's not like you can't go out and do other things this weekend. You can still go cinema, pubs, restaurants etc.

If people want to be mourn then let them do so respectfully. And if they don't want to mourn then again that is their perogative. Just don't be a **** if someone feels differently to you.

I believe what frustrates people is the lack of clarity about what the respectful thing to do would be.

Just so it doesn't appear like I'm obscuring my actual opinion, I'm no royalist, but I do understand the place the queen held and the depth of both emotion and cultural significance the her status held. So I don't think this is an overreaction. However, I do think all things considered it's not the correct reaction.

Guidance says events continue and things remain open. Next weekend that will make big events like football very difficult as people will already be arriving in London to pay respect. So definitely next weekend you'd postpone games.

Now for this weekend. I think games could have gone ahead and there could have been a globally significant show of respect. Am I biased because I wanted the football on, undoubtedly. But I'm also very realistic that next week I don't think it can. So you play the immediate games, plan silences, anthems, black arm bands and then postpone giving people more time to plan and police capacity to manage an international event in London.

As an aside, purely organisationally, the comms from the FA should have said, in accordance with our own protocols for an event of this magnitude we're postponing games out of respect. Not, we have a 9am meeting and thought, what do we do?

No, you haven't pissed me off :D

I guess I interpret the way you say some things literally and it always seems to me that there's something unsaid hinted at. I'll try to be nicer and not lump you in with the diamond white quaffers :D

I am a **** so this is an honest mistake to make but I genuinely mean no offence and looking back I can totally understand how my intentions could be misconstrued which is my bad.

Bottom of my heart, I’ve got no energy left in me these days for any hate against anyone especially on line or against you or her maj.

I was disappointed now I'm angry, I was given to understand in a period of mourning we postpone entertainment which I accepted however out of date it was but it is now clear that ain't the reason at all.
It seems the fine old chaps of the gentlemen's games and the sport of kings can still enjoy themselves, well let's be honest they can be trusted , but football is, for want of a better term, a working man's game and allowing half a million working class types out in huge groups in a time of national uncertainty, well who knows where that may lead!
Still, on the bright side it's a welcome rest for the players.

We can debate the merits of whether or not it was right to postpone but the decision is made so it doesn’t change anything!

What I’m interested in is whether or not you guys think this will be better for us or City?

For me, given we are not playing particularly well despite getting good results, and had 24 hrs less to prepare it may work in our favour.

The rescheduled fixture will almost certainly be after the next transfer window, hopefully we will dip into the market and strengthen. I know City May too but how much stronger can they get!

on top of that the later it is in the season the more challenging it could be for City. Realistically they are likely to go further than us in most competitions which could give them a fixture pile up and less rest.
I know there are lots of variables and we won’t really know until the fixture is rescheduled, I could be talking total rubbish but hopefully the postponement will benefit us ?

From a sporting standpoint I would have rather played. We might have lost, but with Walker injured, that could have helped unlock Sonny. City not really settled in the back.

We are relatively healthy, but who knows what we may be like when the match is ultimately played.

I suspect the profile of the sport plays a big part too.

The PL is about 10x bigger than the rugby, cricket and racing combined. Probably 100x if you take into account the popularity worldwide. Therefore whatever decision the PL makes will be scrutinised 10x more than any other sport, and the actions of any shitty fans at the grounds amplified 10x more by the tabloids.

I don't get the impression it was some calculated "fuck the proles" move decided by the landed gentry while they have their jollies at the ruggers and cricket. Rather just a PL board extremely conscious of the PR surrounding an incredibly high profile sport and trying to do the right thing.

Or City, Haaland might be out, anything can happen.
Right - but City do not have an adequate replacement, with pace, for Walker. Other positions they have cover - even for Haaland.

City will be favored to win, at home, this season no matter the circumstances - but missing Walker gives a good counter-attacking squad the best chance to get points.

But you could argue that we haven't really got going yet.

More time with Conte on the training pitch is definitely a bigger advantage than an injury or two.
