well joey this was 3 months after he signed for newcastle

Increasingly resisting the temptation to dwell on the ball or beat one defender too many, Dyer's give-and-go game is proving pleasingly selfless. Such burgeoning maturity persuaded Robson to relocate him from right wing to a roving, attacking, central midfield brief.
"Mr Robson told me he was giving me a free role, he asked me to take the chance and fully express myself. I love this role because I can make more runs and I'm in the thick of the action. I'll play anywhere for the team but central midfield is where games are won and lost. I played right wing-back for England Under-21s and it worked quite well but I don't really like being stuck out there because you can go ages without receiving the ball."

But that's after Bobby Robson took over. He was bought by Gullit and it was under him he won his first England Cap. It's very difficult to find information but here is the line up for that game,

Martyns
Dyer
Pearce
BAtty
Adams
Keown
Becham
Parlour
Shearer
Fowler
McManaman

Also he got subbed after 45 mins for G.Neville, si he was definitely playing RB.

He also made his Newcaslte debut there as a sub for the Spannish guy (I can't remember his name.) I remember the game as he was so impressive, it was against Wham i think. I can't find this on the net anywhere, but as I said before I'm 100% certain.

Maybe Rose is the 'Insurance cover' for Petrov.

If Petrov went to Citeh then we can say 'we have Rose'.
Now, Rose has signed, which means that Petrov will sign for....................

"I knew on sunday that ne was flying to London yesterday but due to recent comments on here had to wait till it happened

The script now is he is at the lane at the moment having talks with the club and is expected to sign in the next few days

Im on my laptop in the car at the moment having seen him personally watched him and his agent enter the Lane along with about another 20 Hacks

gullit bought dyer july 1999 and was sacked in september 1999, he prob only had dyer for 8 games or so. i still dont think dyer played at right back under gullit as much as he played in midfied, i do remember him playing that game for england you have pointed out but i think thats pretty much the only time he has played right back.

think memory is playing tricks on one of us mate, not saying it has to be you i will keep looking for something to prove it,

this is a match report from sept 1999 barton will have been the right back, dyer was in midfield.

Sorry Joey. Dyer debuted as a RB for England but only as a make-shift fullback. His natural position since going pro was always right wing and he was always regarded as a pacey winger until injuries took their toll and he had to adapt to other positions. He can play full-back but I wouldn't regard him as one.

Great news about Petrov if that is true. I don't know why he would be entering WHL tho. Surely he would be going to the Lodge instead.

when dyer first started out he was definately a right back. i remember seeing him as a 17yr old for ipswich and he was really attacking. was desperate for spurs to sign him as was clearly a huge talent!

think i worked out the dyer issue - was more of a wing back than a full back. so could be classed as either i guess ;)

See if you can find a report for the very start of that season for a game against Wham (or strangely Burnley is in my mind). I 100% remember watching him come on for a Spannish guy and play RB. It was his debut and i remember being so pissed off we missed out on Gulit as coach as I thought he would turn things round at Newcastle and was annoyed that he had managed to sign such a good young English player. he came on at half time and though the Barcodes lost Dyer was so impressive charging forward.

Does anyone actually give a shit what position dyer played.

He gets injured all over the pitch.

I thought this was a petrov discussion...

Found it! It was Villa, not Wham or Burnley (same colour kit). Marcelino was the Spannish guy. I knew I wasn't imagining this. It was the first day of the 1999/2000 season and Newcastle were at home to Villa.

NUFC: Harper, Barton, Marcelino (Dyer 45 mins), Goma, Domi, Dumas, Solano (Robinson 85 mins), Speed, Serrant (Maric 75 mins), Ketsbaia, Shearer
Subs Not Used: Perez, Charvet
Sent Off: Shearer (70 mins)
Booked: Goma, Barton, Shearer, Speed
