Is that why we paid 21m for Son?
If you listened to Poch's quote at the time, he bought in Vlint and Son with the knowledge we may not get SB. I think the funds will be allowed if we still want to sign him. I just don't think they will risk that on a foreigner who has never played in our league, and will take months to settle in January. Summer yes they would spend that on a foreigner to our league.

My tuppence worth
I think levy trusts poch implicitly and if he wants somebody and the wage figures tally up levy will buy them.
The chairman manager relationship seems a thousand times better now than at any other time with DL.

Get him in. Big gamble but at least we get a foreign player in to acclimatise throughout this season ready for action next season.

Interest in all three mentioned.

Fucking hell, I wouldn't be so averse to Batshuayi (even though he's a pure CF who can really only play there, so god knows how that fits with Kane but at least he is the best of the pure box CF's we are being linked with) but Perez ? sheesh.

This is a bit like the summer all over again, Plan A Schniederlin (Chalk), Plan F Wanyama (Cheese).

Batshuayi, Berahino and Perez - much prefer the first rather than the other two. But 'interest' in all 3 who are very different ?

Does that also mean there may be interest in other strikers not named in this article - if so approximately how many ? Do you think there may be possible targets from clubs who started in CL but who finished 4th and not in EL (Lyons et al) or from EL clubs not getting to group stages.

Not expecting you to name names necessarily... but any info helpful !

We should've signed him before he went to Marseille when he was destroying the Juniper League. Then again, we should've signed Alderweireld and Son two years ago, too, when we scouted them and they were much cheaper.

Nevertheless, Batshuayi would be an outstanding signing, if Marseille were prepared to sell. He won't just be a backup for Kane, but will be genuine competition as a starter in this squad once he settles. Given the Belgian contingent already here, his prolific form in Ligue 1, where he's had to shoulder the burden for a downbeat Marseille squad this season, his ability to score goals in a variety of ways (he's strong with both feet, good pace and very good dribbling), and his ability to serve as the attacking trigger in the high press, I'd say he's the best CF we could purchase.

Money shouldn't be an issue for us either. We have the backdrop of a ton of incoming television cash through 2019, on top of record revenues the last two seasons, too. Mix in a few January sales and there is no reason we couldn't easily afford a 20-25 million pound bid here. We spent 33 million for Njie and Son, so I don't see the problem in spending less than that on a player with more potential than both who is the leading goal scorer in one of the top domestic leagues in the world.

Who did you have in mind from the non-qualifiers?

Personally think Perez would be a very good signing. Seems a well-rounded player.

We'd end up with him or Kane pissed off throughout the season IMO. Why rock the boat when what we need is a backup plan. I'd prefer a cheap seasoned pro or an upwardly mobile young prospect.
