Contrary to many views I've read, I thought Dier didn't do too badly in midfield. Neat and tidy passing, patrolled the back four nicely. Obviously he was a world beater but this was one of thr first games he has had there.

Big positives for me were:
Alli - looks to be cracking young player
Trippier - good going forward and solid defensively even if he wasn't particularly tested.
Carroll - love that he constantly tries to play quick football and looks for a forward pass.
Davies - supported the attack better than any game last season and didn't have an awful lot to do defensively.

Yedlin didn't look like a defender playing in midfield, he looked like a fan who'd won a competition to play football with professionals. Massively out of his depth.

Dembele has never underperformed in the RM position. In fact almost every single one of his best performances for us has been in that role.

I know it's early days, but my 2 cents for the record:

Walker and Jan should be worried, Trippier and Wimmer looked much better today. Hadn't realised how much of a physical beast Wimmer is and Trippier can seriously cross a ball.
Toby looked good, very solid.
Rose will definitely start ahead of Davies.
Dier is not a DM, although he did an OK job of covering the position with the lack of other alternatives - We really need to get someone in before the end of the window.
Bentaleb has still to impress me, but a lot of other people on here rate him very highly, so I'll continue to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Lack of pace and creativity going forward still a bit of a worry. Pretty much everything good in the first half came through Dembele who I thought played quite well, although I wouldn't like to start the season with him at RM/RW.
Great finish from Kane for the goal, could have had another 4, but think he's probably just lacking a little bit of match sharpness at this early stage. Don't think we need to have concerns over 2nd season syndrome though.

The kids in the second half give real optimism for the future and in some cases that future may well be now.
Alli looked outstanding. Would be really surprised if he's not getting regular PL game time in the 1st team and some starts against lower opposition.
Winks, Onamah, Coulthirst all look promising. Had the chance to see Shaq play a couple of games on loan at York City last year and he was the most dangerous play on the pitch both times, all be it in Lge 2.
Tom Carroll... just don't know what is going to happen to him. When I see him play, I think he looks good, quite similar to Carrick, but I know people who see him much more regularly than I do don't rate him.
Certainly not a lack of pace with the youngsters!!!

All in all, a couple of sloppy goals given away (same old spurs!), but it's early days and we definitely looked the more likely team to score in the 2nd half. Hope the ITK we've been getting is correct though and a DM + at least one ST/WF with a bit of pace are bought before the end of the window.

I thought Trippier looked pretty good last night. He made himself a lot of room on the right, wanted the ball a lot while the rest of them were putzing about in the middle short passing to each other, and when he got the the ball he showed some speed and made a few nice crosses (and a couple of shitty ones of course). I hope he gets some playing time this season.

I thought Wimmer looked very good. Could turn out to be an absolute bargain. Vertonghen has spent his entire Spurs career comfortable in the knowledge that no one could displace him as our left footed CB. Hopefully that has just ended.

I don't understand the negativity really. I think as far as pre-season friendlies go that is hard to top. It had a competitive edge so gave the squad a great run out. I would rather a defeat in a game like that than a cricket score against the dog and duck. (You listening Juande?)

I thought Kane looked sharp, Toby solid and both Rose and Trippier in particular look like they will offer plenty going forward from fullback in the coming season.

That's pretty standard stuff at any of these all-star games (except for basketball because, y'know, indoors)*

Thought you'd like this picture from last night based on your screen name :)

Thought the timing of Ali's runs into the box was top class, I can understand why he gets so many goals from midfield, I know we are looking for another CM but I think whoever we bring in will have their work cut out trying to keep this kid out of the team. He glides across the pitch, gonna be one hell of a player for us I think!
Trippier looked good too, relentless crosses from the right hand side, lots of things to look forward to with the season around the corner I think.
