There is some conjecture that all the players who have not travelled have remained to avoid potential racial abuse, such as Rose received 2 years ago.

I would lean with doubting that considering Capoue, Paulinho, and Lennon all travelled, but it also isn't the most astronomical explanation for something I've seen either.

If you haven't seen it yet, this is a brief yet insightful few slides giving some good information about some of Partizan's key players, including a young attacking mid we were supposedly linked with two years ago. All three of their AM's are very young and seem to be very promising. They will be a very creative, flowing, swiftly moving side, and I hope we put a team out there such to counter it. I'm not sure a typical CM as the ones we field in the Prem would fare as well against such a different style far more reliant on technical movement and far less on physicality.

Anyway, here's the article: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...purs-fans-should-know-about-the-belgrade-side

Should be a good game. Hopefully some of the lads who haven't had many starts really rise to this.

Only just got round to seeing the whole of the Sunderland match. Bloody 'ell. How we only got a point from that.........

Anyhow, more of the same please lads, especially from those coming in with a point to prove. Pochs methods are starting to be adopted and I like what I see (y)

i read this on sky sports and thought it sounded weird . I just expected rose to miss out due to Davies being available and that we have a large squad.

Wonder who will captain us, Kabs and Ade left at home and im expecting Vorm to make his debut, unless Lloris starts and captains us...

Vertonghen perhaps?

Yes. It's just the media looking for a story. Davies was always going to start this game, so there is no point taking Rose along for the sake of it.

Vertonghen's isn't much better.
Is it me or do the players seem to be smiling a lot more in training ?
It's just you - they always used to pick all the smiley pictures under AVB and Sherwood as well.

I'm starting to get really irritated by the OS constantly referring to Stambouli as 'Benji'.

Makes him sound like a fucking Labrador.

(n) Means Kaboul is most likely to start on the weekend again. I appreciate what the guy's done for us, but with healthy options there is absolutely no reason he should still be starting in the league in his current shape.
Likely-not definite unless MoPo has had an AVB style Dawson conversion.
I am really looking forward to this game to see Fazio start. If the boy does good then who knows?
Pretty obvious that our defence is not currently good enough.

Didn't Rose have an almighty dust up with the U21s in Serbia where he was subjected to terrible racial abuse and gave it back to the crowd? Maybe the club are protecting him with that in mind

Know nothing about Partizan Belgrade. Where do they stand say alongside a Ludogorets who played pool the other night?

that's what SKy sports were pointing at but Poch has said it's just for football reasons. As i posted earlier i expected Davies to be starting anyway along with many of the other players who didn't start at the weekend. I think the team will probably be similar to this

GK : Vorm
Defence: Naughton,Fazio,Vertonghen,Davies
Midfield:Stambouli, Bentaleb,Paulinho,lennon,townsend
Striker: Soldado

I'd go with

Vorm
Naughton Fazio Vertonghen Davies
Stambouli Mason
Lennon Paulinho Townsend
Soldado

Bench: Lloris, Veljkovic, Bentaleb, Kane, Eriksen, Lamela, Chiriches

If all goes well: Kane, Veljkovic for Vertonghen, Soldado at 60. Chiriches for Fazio at 75.

Then this weekend

Lloris
Dier Fazio Vertonghen Rose
Capoue Dembele
Lamela Eriksen Chadli
Soldado

Bench: Vorm, Kaboul, Paulinho, Bentaleb, Adebayor, Kane, Lennon

Agree with this other than I think Bentaleb should probably play ahead of Mason (then give Mason some minutes towards the end), and I think Naughton should start ahead of Dier at the weekend if he's fit (with Dier possibly coming in for Fazio depending on how the big man does tonight).

Looking forward to this tonight. No real pressure on the team so hopefully they can strut their stuff a bit.
