From today's l'Equipe:

Having offered €18.5 to the office for the purchase of Florent Malouda, Chelsea would also like to recruit Pascal Chimbonda. According to l'Equipe's information, the London club has money reserved for the ex-Bastia player and is prepared to spend not less than €14m. There is, however, little chance of Chimbonda moving. He is under contract with Tottenham until 2010, and Spurs, who had a great deal of trouble luring the player from Wigan a year ago (€9m), will not be disposed to let him go.

Since we already know commitment isn't one of Chimbonda's strong points from the way he left Wigan and joined us, shouldn't we be preparing a replacement and an advantageous deal with Chelsea, rather than waiting for him to unsettle us at a more critical time?

I think he is very replacable, and for that money, i think its too big a carrot to turn down.

Imagine a £12m carrot! That would be amazing! I think we should insist Chelsea pay us with a carrot.

What I can't understand is why anyone would be willing to pay so much for him!!!

As Carl has pointed out he is probably the single biggest reason for us conceding goals last season, he was dire as a defender almost as bad going forward and probably should have been third choice (fourth if you consider Leapy can cover that side too) RB behind Stalteri and Ifil. I'd even go as far as to say that if we'd not had Chimbonda in the side we'd have finished fourth and won a Cup or two.

FFS, Mourinho's one of the best managers in world football, can't he see how useless Chimbo is, i mean he's the same age as Leapy (who's one of the top five full-backs in the world btw) and yet commands ten times the transfer fee, not that I'm complaining mind you... except Jol can't seem to see it either and he works with him every day and neither can Comolli who's supposed to be our main talent spotter and now they're apparently rejecting this offer... are they insane...?

I tell you what, I despair of our club sometimes, why can't they see what I do?? It's so f*cking obvious!!! Well there's either something wrong with them or me and I know it's not me because i play Football Manager and often win and I've been watching football for ten years, since I was four...!! So, it's them. Idiots.

I think Chimbonda is a fantastic player, and one of the best right backs in the Premier League, but if we did not manage to keep hold of him, and had to sell him to Chelsea for £12mill, we could find a good replasement in Bakary Sagna of Auxerre. I think that Sagna would follow Kaboul if he had the chance. Sagna would be a great signing too.

I'd take £12 million for him like a shot and replace him with Bakary Sagna from Auxerre.

I agree with Spursking and A&C. Sagna is the man to replace Chimbonda but apparently he turned down the Barcodes cos he wants to play for Whinger and the Scum

Isn't Sagna just about to sign for the Goons?

I have heared that too, so we should try in the last attempt to hijack a deal, and let him join Kaboul at Tottenham Hotspur FC. The white team = Fair Play. Red = Dirty tricks

well it looks like Chimbonda wants to move again... we need to find a new RB.

Levy was going to reject but he wants to go.

Just what i've heard in last few mins.....

Chimbonda is the best right back in the premiership. If we want to finish in the top 4 we need to have the best players. And selling Chimbonda to Chelsea is sending the wrong message. I wouldn't be happy if we sell Chimbonda.

I echo the sentiments about Chimbo being a bit of a mercenary, think as soon as Chelsea were interested then were we always gonna lose him. Hopefully Levy has taken note and there are already plans in place to find a replacemnt. Although I dont like the idea of selling players to the top four, Chimbonda to Chelsea is one I can deal with.
Saying that he may have only wanted to leave Wigan because they were goose, will money turn his head? only time will tell folks!

So will arsenal play fair way from home?

Red is gay, by the way.

Sures it a kick in the pants if he goes but it makes you think just how far we have come as a club in such a short amount of time under Levy Jol Him and Commoli.

Gone are the days of people leaving us for 300,000 at the end of there contracts. We are definately amoungst the big boys.

Dont think there are many better RBs in European football than Chimbonda but if he wants to go we have to let him go.

He said when he signed we were a stepping stone and if these rumours that he has asked to go its just proved it. If we take our Spurs hats off for a second you cant blame him he is nearly 30 and he gets to play Champions League.

Good point, he is a bit of a late starter, so you cant really begrudge him trying to do as much as possible. fair play to him! Being first choice for Chels will do him the world of good on the interntaional stage aswell.
