Oduwa is garbage

And that's being generous.

All flash no substance type of player.

I've seen plenty of youth football.

You can get away with plenty at that level that you can't in the pro's.

The list of scorers at that level that never translate is miiiiiiiles long.

I think that's really harsh. He has a demeanour and gate that looks a bit lazy and gangly, and I can't vouch for the kids attitude off the pitch, I know nothing about it, maybe he's not exactly the most ambitious but based purely on watching him play football, he's easily as naturally talented and gets his head up more than Townsend ever did and he got fucking shit loads of game time. I don't think he's got any less natural ability than players like Njie or Nkoudou from what I've seen of them, maybe he's not quite got their application, and I accept that maybe his downfall, but to say he's garbage is unfair. A bit lacking drive maybe.

Sure, "garbage" is over the top, but I really don't think he's got what it takes to cut it at the Prem level, let alone our level. A lot of the stuff he does at youth level is because he doesn't get closed down properly and he won't be able to finish his tricks at this level and it will take work to even get it to a level where he can finish it at the Championship level imo.

its an indictment of the youth coaching if they can't make a player out of Nathan - he has so much to offer. Terrific pace genuine skill and its a shame that so far that hasn't been translated into a player.

If you had told me two years ago that Anton Walkes would play first team football before Nathan, Connor Ogilvie or Walker Peters I would have laughed at you.
Nathan to me is the quintessential representation of the most overrated skill in football - which is dribbling. Doing it without proper application and creativity makes it pretty worthless and In haven't seen him show that in a way that will cut it in the pros. Which I don't think is the coach's fault as if they could teach that to anyone then we'd have a youth squad full of chalk full of future pros.

I've never been particularly bullish about his chances of making it, certainly at PL level because players like him rarely do, he has this loping style that just doesn't warm him to managers and fans, and I'm really not sure about his character, he doesn't come across as having that burning drive that it takes to make it even to regular championship level, but I'd like to have seen him given the sort of minutes we intended to give Njie and now Nkoudou, because from what I've seen he has as much natural talent as those two in his feet and contrary to what has been said by some, whenever I've seen him it's not just been about "tricks for tricks sake", he does genuinely try to get his head up and create quality chances for people, unlike some of the slapdash hit and hope shit we've seen plenty of in our first team at times.

At the very worst, it's a dead heat for over rated "skill" with pace, which is equally moribund unless it is attached to a brain.

Sorry but Oduwa barely played in L2, was dropped from Rangers after the first few games where he showed off a bit, and now has only gotten 12' in L1, his first game at Peterborough, and hasnt been subbed in their last 2 games. What makes you think he could offer more to us than players who have played many minutes in Ligue 1?

And why are we talking about Oduwa in thus thread anyway? This is a thread on Onomah, who played very well today.

Well Njie had played 1500 minutes in Ligue 1 when we bought him. I promise you, Oduwa would have at least that now if he was french, economics would dictate that if nothing else.

Thought he had by far his best game yesterday, was good to see him not tripping over the ball for once! His passing was sharp and he looked a threat, great finish as well.

I'm excited about this kid. He really is a mix between Dembele and Eriksen in his skillset. I know we haven't seen his dribbling ability yet as he is still building the upper body strength to shield the ball as well as Dembele does, but he has that in the locker. I will be very surprised if he isn't a regular starter for us within the next 3 seasons.

He's 19, yet already he's shielding the ball and holding off much bigger men better than players 5-10 years older than him. I can see him turning into an absolute beast and a nightmare to play against as he gets even stronger. He has a wonderful ability to get the ball to feet under pressure and then use his opponent as a kind of springboard to motor away from him.

Yeah, he's starting to look at home in the tight fitting shirt alongside the likes Dembele, Wanyama, Walker etc. He seems to really be developing some power in his core muscles, and filling out his frame.

Looks like Onomah got taller, we are stacked in the CM position for years to come. On a sidenote, kinda feel for Luke Amos, I think he got injured earlier in the season for the U21's. He's another young CM that I feel can play a part for us in the future.
