Hard to impress in 10 minutes, didn't do anything wrong/right. Few good touches. Played in CM at least. Looked like he missed a sitter on the corner of the 6 yard box but was offside anyway luckily.

People moaned when I criticised Pochettino for not getting Onomah on the pitch in CM when we were winning games 3-0 and 4-0 in the last couple of seasons, especially last year.

He had three free (four including today if he hadn't been packed off) games to try him as a CM this pre-season. And now he's been packed off a la Pritchard.

I don't know if he's going to make it, (if he doesn't it's not about lack of talent) but I think with the choices we have now for CM, it's a real mistake that could bite us on the arse. We don't have a single CM who offers what Onomah could have.

But the thing is you're never happy, always looking to the negative saying he should be playing this youngster and that youngster. It gets to the point that if Poch put 5 youth players in the team, you'd be asking for a 6th.

Every Spurs fan loves a youth player coming through the ranks, it's honestly the most satisfying thing as a fan, like you've natured that persons career and it's amazing when they make it.

But currently Winks is ahead of Onomah as our youth prospect at CM. There is no way a top four club is going to have two youth players start or play as CM, that just isn't going to happen. It's likely Wanyama will be back at the weekend and we currently have Dembele, Wanyama as first choice and Winks, Dier as back ups. So what is the point of keeping Onomah here on the back of a great World Cup when he can go out on loan to a big club like Villa and gain some valuable experience. He just signed a new contract and Poch definitely sees something in him.

How about a bit of patience, we are a very big club now, KWP has been getting chances which you have been banging on about. We haven't rushed out and got a RB in as soon as Walker went, okay we may bring one in. But for the time being Poch is giving KWP that chance.... yet this still isn't good enough.

Come on man, what more do you want.

What I like with SC is that in case Pochettino leaves there are so many on SC who are better managers than him and would create stars out of every academy player simply by giving them playing time. Wow, it's that simple and easy
And then there is the conspiracy theory that Poch simply doesn't play Onomah because of the Russians - who wants to upset the Spurs fans.
Many fans simply don't understand that by playing a young player before he's ready it can have an averse effect on his career by harming their confidence if things doesn' work out. It's not simply to give them plenty of regular footy and hope for the best. If it had worked that way then more youth players would have been given playing time.

It's a good sign that Josh got some playing time yesterday, he only joined them on Thursday and Villa were 1-1 going for the winner so Bruce does appear to take him seriously and will play him.

When we are without Wanyama, Son, Nkoudou, Rose, Lamela not to mention Walker, I fail to see that it makes any sense to sell or loan out any of our players unless and until new players come in. Onomah was a useful squad player and the depth of our squad is diminished, so why diminish it still further ?

Especially when managerial genius Steve Bruce is going to leave him on the bench behind such sparkling midfield talents as Glenn Whelan and Leandro Bacuna.

If Onomah does make it, it will probably only be a couple of years until people are complaining that he's taking up minutes that could be going to an academy player.

Go easy on BC, it's been a tough pre-season for him. Lesniak's been released and he's having to bed in Dier as his new scapegoat now Walker's gone.

I know the loan spell may not be at the best club for him and Brucie maybe not the best manager but let's see how it pans out.
He'll get some chances, as per yesterday, and it's up to him to impress his manager and make it hard for him to be overlooked on the team sheet.

I agree.

its pretty simple isn't it?
If the players show enough in training then they will get their chance to play. If they don't then they won't. Im not sure what is so difficult about that? I know he is against the norm, but Dele Alli came in and performed in pre-season - enough that Poch gave a chance to someone who we all would have assumed was one for the future. Winks has been around the squad and given his chances - which he took until his injury.

I think it is unrealistic to think that every single youth player automatically deserves to be given playing time - every single game and every point is crucial in an increasingly competitive league and so Poch has to marry up developing the players but at the same time ensuring we are competitive. As mentioned above, as fans there is nothing we would like more that a whole team of home developed players but this has to be tempered with some realism and appreciation of what Poch is doing.... fans of others teams would kill to have him as their manager and developing them the way he has us.

we might be bringing in a player who can play the CM role, so Josh would have been further down the pecking order and not getting the minutes he needs.

I don't disagree that that might happen but why loan him out until it does happen ?

Force Levy's hand imo

Levy would have to agree the loan and sort out who pays what. Who pays his wages or what percentage, is there a loan fee etc... The clubs would have contacted him not poch asking if the player was available to loan.
Can't see how poch puts pressure on levy through this.
Think in contract negotiations onomah wanted more game time, we said that we couldn't guarentee that but would send him on loan.
