I might be understanding this wrong but are you saying Son stat padded last season?

He offered a hell of a lot more than that if that's what you're saying.

He's not on it at all so far this season, definitely. But he's still one of the two world class footballers we have in the team.
If he can get back to full fitness and the form he was in last season, I’d argue strongly that Perisic is number 3

A guy who reads the game and covers defensively as well as Bentacur, and who scores, assists and delivers incisive passes more. That's not a dig at Bents, it's just that coz he's silky smooth on the ball people overlook his shortcomings yet are ready to stick the knife into PEH at every opportunity. I dreed to think how many points we'd have dropped in the past two season without PEH - he's no Fernandinho or Kante but Jesus wept give the guy some credit.
fair, mate.

as i said, i'm fully prepared to accept that there's just something that I'm fundamentally missing with him. but to me, it just looks like he doesn't have the actual quality of other midfielders. LIke he puts himself around and whatever, but what I see is someone who is just flawed and limited when it comes to actually playing football.

but again, i really want to stress that i get that I'm prob just missing something here.

Mate, he was really good today.

Mate, he was really good today.
like i said, i get that its probably just me missing it.

I'm also a massive sucker for players who look so effortless and graceful when they play, like Bentancur, and Hojbjerg by comparison is almost clumsy, so I'll always be biased by that a little tbh, regardless of the actual outcome

I love watching our team now, remember the early 2000s and before that, now we have this crazy good squad and all these great players to watch - some world class… and the reaction to a 1-0 win is “what a load of rubbish” lol

Try chilling out for a moment and watch the game without any frustrations or anger and you’ll realise what level these players are at and how they’re able to execute things. Title is on this season for sure
I was with you right until that last sentence :D

But fuck it, why not be positive. Fair play.

Son, as far back as I can remember, always seems to go thru a poor patch before waking up and really excelling… he’ll come good; if that I’m sure. For me, today, Kulu’s 2nd half performance was the catalyst to the win. Shout out to Emerson too…. Bentacur & peh were the silent heroes for me to… oh, and that new lwb of ours weren’t s’bad

First half we where terrible.

Second half a different team.

Davies I thought had a good game, Peirsic prob our best player.

Richarlason played well, he made a big difference, needed to score though.

Sess had a good cameo.

We need to be more aggressive, Dier and Sanchez had a poor game.

Sanchez is not good enough, we need a better RWB, or Emerson needs to believe in himself he stops rather than goes at teams. When he played inside and Kulu outside we looked a lot better. Tbh with the switch it made a huge difference.

All in all when we are aggressive we look so much better.

Son was off today, hopefully he will be back on firm soon.

I wish we could knock the ball around like wolves they can play longer acurate passes finding players in space, switching the play, none of our players today seemed able to.

Don't really agree here. We lost it last year, were extraordinarily lucky not to lose at Molineux, and still came 4th! They're a tough team to beat, defensively robust and strong on the counter, very well setup and organised. Few teams will boss them, and it's entirely possible whoever comes 4th will drop a couple of points to them. These are the games you have to consistently win one way or another if you want to lift the title, so long may these results continue!
Yeah I feel like almost all the teams in the league have enough talent to cause serious problems on their day (excusing a handful of proper turds like Everton, Bournemouth, etc). Wolves were abject at times last season, but when they were at it they looked a decent outfit and they defo turned up today.

Wolves borrowed from the Chelsea play-book and shut us down in the first half. Thankfully they couldn't keep it up and we really took the game to them in the 2nd half. I'm trying to pinpoint what actually changed...did we simply press higher and start running more? Suddenly felt like we had the initiative and took control of the game.

Anyway, felt like almost veryone was bad first half and almost everyone was good second half. Perisic MOTM.

(We need to seriously work out a counter to teams that pack the midfield and mark our forwards out of the game).

perisic motm for me. Sanchez decent, and everyone else a bit mid.

on Hojbjerg, i really just dont get it. I saw BT game him motm and people i respect, like Windy on TEI for example, described him as 'commanding'

I'm fully prepared to accept that I'm wrong, but what i see is just plain ordinary. a player that is capable at times, sure, but more often than not cannot take the ball under pressure, has a terrible touch, and shows far more pashun than quality.

what am i missing?
I am a big fan of Højbjerg and he does a lot of work that goes unseen - blocks, interceptions, headers, tackles, and he is a great passer when passing the way he is facing - he has split many a defence with a slide rule or chipped pass. He is also a leader and always gives 100%. However, today he was very poor. He looked leggy, gave away needless fouls and missed several really simple progressive passes that cost us really good moves and overlaps.

HIs main weakness is that he does not scan well (i.e. he does not progressively look for where team mates are before he gets the ball). This limits his range of distribution and means he often passes sideways or backwards when a quick scan would have shown a very obvious progressive pass. For example, today he got the ball and Perisic was in acres n his left (and another player too) and could have easily been played in for a goal scoring chance. He never looked up once, took too many touches and then went to ground at the slightest touch and the move broke down. It was shocking play. It is his one glaring weakness. If Conte can get him doing extra sensory (visual) work after training, and get him widening his field of vision and actually scanning the field consistently - especially when he is about to receive the all - he will become a really top CM. Look at the great players - Messi is the best example - he scans two or three times when the ball is actually on it's way to him. Once when he wants the ball, again when it is kicked to him, and once more when the ball is about 2 feet from him. Amazing awareness.

I think we did. We were very aware of their threat on the counter, especially with Romero out, and for the most part played fairly conservatively to deny them clear chances. But in the first half we took that too far and struggled to control the game. Additionally, Bentancur was working extremely hard but I felt he lacked some positional discipline, hampering our transitions. Very very glad to see us turn it around, make chances, get the goal, and then see out the win without too much threat - I thought that was quite impressive.

Perisic, but we could have and maybe should have lost that game if Wolves had better finishing first half.

If we want to keep top 4 this season we have to boss these games. Wolves looked like the home team first half

Great three points however!!!
Not sure wolves even has a clear cut chance to finish first half, all bark no bite. Didn't create anything of note but had a lot of the ball.

Anyways, Perisic and Kulusevski a cut above the rest

Perisic by a country mile. The only player in the first half who was playing with the required intensity. If everyone else had played like he did we would have won at a canter. He put in some top quality crosses from only half a yard of space. Top class player. Got another assist again for a Kane goal.

The good news is the signings since Conte arrived have been top class. Perisic is a beast, Richarlison good enough to start, Bentancur/kulusevski obviously good. But still looks like something is missing. Sanchez and Davies look good but maybe not great, and sometimes theres a lack of something in centre mid against teams hard to breakdown

Conte's team talk at HT is what changed.

Simply upped the tempo.

It's funny when you up the tempo off the ball and press more, the tempo lifts on the ball...

And then pass and move with intensity breaks the lines.

That's simply what happened.

I thought Davies was our best defender,
Dier made mistakes
Sánchez was not convincing, he doesn’t look like his good enough to start defensively or in distribution. His the pace and size to be amazing I just don’t think his ever going to be good enough.

Today we were not aggressive enough first half, but
Dier, Sánchez
Central mid
Son
Royal First half second tbh he had a better game second.
Didn’t play well enough
