So you are saying drop Davies, which I completely disagree with.
Or if you aren't, is it Lenglet replaces Dier, I don't understand

I mean, yeah, but we do stick 11 men behind the ball when the opposition has possession in our half. That's not to say that the team doesn't deserve credit but It would be particularly concerning if we were adopting such negative tactics and still conceding lots of chances.
We're not sticking XI behind the ball intentionally. They just overran us in midfield, stopped the ball to Kane and kept possession. I highly doubt that's what Conte wants us to do, even if counters are a strength with the pace we have.

Spence not in the matchday squad again. I honestly thought he would come in and have a similar impact to Kyle Walker. AC must think he has a fair bit of development ahead of him.

It's funny to me how when we're poor it's never because of the other team who stifled and stopped us from playing, yet we make others look bad.

It was down to Wolves and our own lack of intensity. Once we upped it and made some changes it looked much better.

I don't see us as boring, as when we get going the fast incisive passing is a joy to watch to me.

We have scored 7 in 3 games. We were not off it v Southampton. Far from it. So I don't agree when people include that game. We went behind sure, but I genuinely felt that was against the run of play and we still controlled it.

Not just that but we also played two teams (Wolves and Chelsea) that are very strong in midfield and had no proper striker, so were able to flood the middle of the park to stifle our deep progression. Very tricky opposition for us. It's no coincidence that both of those sides hardly tested Lloris despite dominating general play. Make no mistake, both of those teams had the primary goal of stopping us build from deep, showing a lot of respect to us as an opponent. They both just have the technical ability in their side to also retain possession well in our half when they win it.

I'd put Brighton up there as another team capable of this but there won't be many more outside the top six that can. Other teams will have to try to do it as a mid to low block. City and Liverpool always give you counter opportunities, as do Arsenal seemingly as Lego-Man City.

I hate watching these kind of games where teams stifle us but the reality is they are doing it because they are taking us very seriously. We are a serious team now. There will be days where we have to grind results out because we won't win comfortably every week. Liverpool and City have already proven that isn't even possible for them 3 games in.

I think the promising thing today was that the same players were able to overcome the problems of the first half. I'm hoping for a more enjoyable game next week however.

Kyle Walker took about 2-3 years to become a regular and had three loan spells to get there IIRC. I'd imagine it'll be similar with Spence. He's a good player, saw him in the flesh last year for Forest, but it's a massive step up.

I don't think it's his intention either (Mourinho used to claim the same thing) but along with the issues you cited, it's not happening by chance and appears to be a by-product of the tactics and formation being used. We're getting overrun because we're outnumbered and playing three CBs against teams without a proper CF. The press is passive at best and so the team shifts far back to compensate which makes it difficult for the opposition to open us up but also for us to launch meaningful attacks.

Chelsea were very good against us, no doubt, but I don't think a team with the players we have should be getting stifled as often or as easily as we are.

Whatever the issues are, with this squad I always expect an improvement after halftime. It happens regularly. Such a welcome change from the Mourinho lockdown season side where we might go up but you could expect a late concession to drop points after the break.

Mitrovic will always score. That’s why Fulham are likely to stay up if he stays fit. He’s a big like Kane. Always finds a way.
