They are completely different players, I can't see the Lambert transfer having any impact on Berahino unfortunately.

They are different, but Berahino has played through the middle to...so its another forward in for them with one potentially leaving, so semi-related IMO.

Nevertheless, you don't replace a young pacey striker with an old and slow striker.

Not like for like obviously, but Pulis might be tweaking things. Havn't they signed the lad from Wolves to play on the left as well....add Lambert to that, and they are covering positions Berahino did play. Doesn't matter that they're different types etc.

Based on our second half performance alone, we need someone who can get on the end of crosses in a crowded penalty box on a regular basis. We need a presence. He'd give us that, would work hard, Poch got the best out of him before and he'd cost next to nothing. He'd be an ideal third striker for the coming season.

Having said that, we won't get him, I'm sure our interest was to spur west brom along and we can play the, "we won't go for lambert if we can talk to Berahino" card which is so often rumored but probably never happens in practice.
I agree that we need that presence, but I disagree that Lambert is it.

Honestly wouldn't be against it on the cheap.

Like 2/3 million for a third choice that Poch likes seems alright.

yep, he would ad some nice depth with ade and soldado on their way out.... did Poch play/rate lambert at soton?... seem to remember lambert not starting too often under Poch... can't remember... :mask:

31 starts, 6 subs appearances, 13 goals with 10 assists in Pochs full season (13/14). Decent turn out for him.

I genuinely think Lambert would make sense, and that's as second choice striker not third. Proven in this league, similar skill set to Kane, knows and buys into our manager and his system, intelligent at bringing others into play and at 33 has a couple of years in him still but will probably see being guaranteed second choice with us as a step up from being behind everyone and their mother at Liverpool.

Basically, it ticks all the boxes for me:

He'd be an able, reliable and similar back up for Kane.
He is proven in this league.
He will understand and apply what our manager requires of him.
He is inexpensive so there will be plenty funds available for a CM and a pace wideman.

If we can't get Berahino who could both be Kane's deputy and play wide, Lambert would be a veritable no brainer.

Agree with all of the above.

LAMBERT FEE AGREED

Liverpool have accepted a bid from West Brom for the sale of Rickie Lambert believed to be in the region of £3m, according to Sky sources.

The player now has permission to undergo a medical with the Baggies.
