Marca from Spain has an article about former Villarreal midfielder and Argentinean international Juan Roman Riquelme, who returns on a permanent deal to his home country to play for Boca Juniors. The talented midfielder enjoyed a successful loan spell last season at his home club, after being neglected in Spain by manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Riquelme finishes by appreciating Juande Ramos and Tottenham's interest in him, but he and his family felt that it was time to return to Argentina.

No surprises there for me either, but this means there might have been a formal approach for him, as he has been transfer listed since the summer. Was there any ITK or rumour thread about Juande's interest in him that I missed?

The guy is playing at his very best for his national squad, so influential and decisive. We Chileans suffered him twice on our WC qualifying game last month, and he ran the game totally, despite not playing at club level for over 5 months. Much more mature and classy than Veron when he played for United, a classy player and most important, a winner.

If it's true that Ramos made an approach for Riquelme, what's interesting for me is that it means he was prepared to build a Spurs team around a classic Number Ten/ACM.

Riquelme has never been successfully accommodated in an orthodox 4-4-2. Argentina usually play with a diamond, with Mashcerano as DM, and two hard-working, CMs like Cambiasso and Lucho Gonzalez (ie no wingers). Recently, they played two DMs behind Riquelme and a crazy frontline of Messi, Tevez and Aguero.

But if we had signed Riquelme we'd have either had to play with a diamond 4-1-2-1-2, or the 3-5-2 that we ended up with on Sunday.

I still suspect we'll end up playing 4-4-2 under Ramos. Unless we start getting linked with players like Diego or Van Der Vaart who are both also classic No 10s....

We don't need any attacking midfielders, we need a defensive midfielder.

Miguel Veloso is impressing me at the minute at Sporting Lisbon. His performances I have seen in the Champs league, especially last nights game, have been very good.

World class player. We're not in a position to be sniffing at the chance to sign him. Shame he didn't want us.

Miguel Veloso is going to Man Utd but yeah he would be perfect for us, both his ability and age
