Spoke to my contact, he expects this will still be done, also thinks that Valencia either had another offer while we were talking or they got wind of the Marca/Bale shit and thought they could push the deal. Soldado was one of our top two targets, why give up now?

Also says Baldini a busy man and moving on to do further business, he's done his bit with talking to the player and agent, now money men dealing.

Previously - Silva 24m, Mata 24m, Villa 34m - Valencia got what they wanted for their best players, reflecting the quality of them. IIRC all those deals seemed to be struck fairly easily. Too early to say that this won't follow that lead, but I suspect if it doesn't, it's yet another in a long line of our deals that failed due to wanting to steal a bargain.

Different chairman. The last guy got serious flack for the deals you mention for the low prices he achieved.

How so? After all these years do you really think that is how Levy works? He's offered 26m Euros apparently and Valencia want 30m euros. They've said no to our bid, if we go back in straight away with 26.1m they will just say no again straight away. If we make them sweat on it with their financial troubles and Levy comes back in a week with a 26.1m bid I reckon he might have more luck. He might keep this going until deadline day but I can't imagine it is completely over because of a 4m euro difference.

If it puts you at ease POTL was around when panic broke out on both here and COYS.
He had actually just posted about Soldado and quashed the Marca/Bale nonsense.
I'd imagine he would have said something if there was something to say.
